We
caught up with Leeds punk rockers to talk about
all things punk and the bands forthcoming EP release.
Hello
and thank you for taking time out to do this interview,
First of all can you give us a brief history of
the band for the people who have never heard of
you?
“Were Guns on the Roof from Leeds England.
We have been together for around 3 years now
working are arses of touring up and down country
and we have just recorded our second album “New
Frustration’ Also we have supported many
establish acts such as Rancid, The Misfits,
Uk Subs, Marky Ramone to name a few… Liam
Brett - Vocals, Danny Sharp - Guitar, Marc Miles
- Bass, Joe Sefton - Drums”
How
did you come up with the band name Guns On The
Roof?
“We took it from the title of a clash
song! They are one of our influences and we
just thought it would be a cool name!”
What
are your influences and whom would you say contributed
to your current musical style?
Our influences
vary from bands such as the clash, Rancid, Offspring
to The police the Ruts, The dickies etc…
We all as individual members have different influences
and it brings great musical differences to the
band.
How
would you describe the UK punk scene at the moment?
“Its ok I guess but its one of them things
what can just kick off at anytime. We need to
get rid of all the shit indie music and bring
some punk back to the radios!”
What
bands would you recommend from the UK punk scene
at the moment?
“Outl4w are a band for the future! I think
there youngest member is 14”?
Are
you looking forward to finally getting your new
EP released on the 15th June?
“Well here is the plan! Were touring June
July to promote the single and then were planning
on a September tour for the release of the album
which is going to be cool we can’t wait!”
How
was it like making the video for 'Last Orders'
and who came up with the ideas for the video?
“ Liam came up with the idea for the last
orders video with the director! It was a great
experience for us having not done a video shoot
before. We couldn’t have done it without
the director and the team they were great, I tell
you something we can’t wait for the next
video to be done!”
How
do you go about writing songs? Do you jam along
until something falls into place or do you all
sit down and really think things through?
“We just come up with ideas at home really.
Like one of us could be at home messing about
on the guitar and come up with a good riff, then
we usually take it from there and the songs just
come along with everyone’s input at rehearsals”
You
have a few shows planned over the summer playing
with bands like Demob, Anti Nowhere League and
the UK Subs, how much are you looking forward
to these shows and which bands are you looking
forward to be playing with the most? What was
it like playing with Rancid a few years back?
“The best gig ever! You cannot ask for anything
more than supporting your idols. They are great
guys and made us feel welcome too, We have a song
on the new album called ‘Road Of Our Lives’.
It was written about that gig. And Charlie Harper
UK SUBS! What a legend!”
If
you could play with any band past or present,
who would it be and why?
“Playing with rancid would be a definite
for all of us. Supporting the Beatles would be
cool ha! As they influenced nearly every band
going. The clash and the jam would be a deffo
too as they gave us a lot of influence writing
‘Pure Punk Rock Therapy’”
What
is the most memorable gig you have played and
why?
“ Rancid because it was unbelievable and
sold out so the room was crammed right to the
back! We once supported Anti nowhere league in
Newcastle and Marc nearly got murdered by some
psycho woman! That was a Great memory ha!”
What’s
next for Guns On The Roof?
“Tour the world and get a massive fan base
by spreading our music. Also playing with as many
of our idols as we can, you can’t ask for
much more than that”.
You
seem to have regular appearances on rock 24/7,
how does this come about?
“Dunno really we have just been approached
by them we guess they like us ha! We are all looking
forward to the 20th may when we will be co-hosting
the show that’s going to be a good laf”!
What
advice what you give to a new band starting off?
“Just have a good time and try not to let
things worry you, Take things as they come and
the most important things is to stick together
and take risks by been committed”!
Where
do you hope to see Guns On The Roof in 5 years
time?
“We would like to have an established name
so when the word Guns On The Roof pops us people
know who we are”.
Okay,
one final random question; if you had a choice,
what animal would you be out of a Zebra and a
Giraffe?
Gotta go for the giraffe.
Thanks
for your time, is there a message you would like
to give to your fans reading this?
