We
sent Peter Comerford some questions via E-mail
to find out how Cage The Gods formed, what we
can expect from their debut EP and album and also
how they have found touring with The Answer and
Tracer.
How
did you form as a band and came up with the name
Cage The Gods?
We formed in the summer of 2012, Myself (Peter,
Vocalist) and Jam (Guitarist) had known each other
previously and started putting the band together.
We met Mitch through a mutual friend and he introduced
us to Colin, who later became our drummer. We
actually started recording our own stuff before
we came up with the name Cage The Gods, I think
we were looking for something powerful to represent
the big sound we were getting in the studio and
Cage The Gods was one of the few names that stood
out to us.
You
are set to release your debut 4 track EP ‘Favourite
Sin’ on the 24th November, what can you
tell us about the EP?
It’s our first official release and will
be available to download from our website, iTunes
etc. The EP features four new tracks; Favourite
Sin (Radio Edit), From The Start, Wake Up and
an acoustic version of our song called Sacrifice.
We also recently shot a video for Favourite Sin
which will be released to coincide with the EP.
It should serve as a good taste of what’s
to come later with the album!
I
understand that
you are also hard at work on your debut album,
what can we expect from that and when are you
planning on releasing it?
We’re actually finished recording the album
but we’ve still gotta decide on a track
list, artwork and a title. We’re all very
pleased with how it sounds given we recorded,
mixed and produced everything ourselves and we
really just can’t wait to get it all out.
It’s looking like a March 2014 release.
You
have been on the road supporting Tracer and The
Answer for the past two weeks how did this come
about and how have you found the shows and touring
with these bands?
It’s been fantastic. They are two really
great rock bands who know how to put on a great
show and we’ve learned a lot from them.
Their fans have been good to us and I couldn’t
believe just how many people showed up early every
night, we really had a blast.
Since
you formed back in 2012 you have played a lot
of live shows and shared the stage with many bands,
do you have any good stories from the road?
Oh there’s a few alright. One of the more
recent stories was a bit of a close call, on the
second date of the UK Answer/Tracer shows (Wolverhampton)
we were hanging out by the van waiting to replace
our number plate (which we had lost in transit)
when I accidently slammed the side door on (bassist)
Mitch’s fingers. It was awful; I remember
the moment as if in slow motion, he was so lucky
not to have severed them. They swelled right up,
lost feeling and he couldn’t move them all
day. Come show time he simply just taped them
up, took some ibuprofen and played through it.
What’s kind of funny in hindsight is that
we caught the whole thing on camera. He’s
fine now thankfully.
What
do you have planned once the tour with The Answer
comes to an end? And can we expect you to play
some shows around the release of your EP ‘Favourite
Sin’?
We’ll be playing at Hard Rock Hell on
the 30th of November which is just after we
release the EP. Then the following weekend we’ll
be taking part in this years Planet RockStock
festival after which we’ve got a few headline
dates to finish out the year; December 12th
in Nottingham, 13th in Sheffield and 14th in
Manchester.
It
is still early days for Cage The Gods but what
would you say your main highs and lows as a band
have been so far?
We’ve been very fortunate over the past
few months; some of the highs that stand out
to me are finishing our Album, signing with
a great management team, signing with a top
U.K booking agent, touring with The Answer &
Tracer and most recently playing to a very receptive
crowd at the Electric Ballroom in London. I
think the main low point for us came after our
original drummer N.J announced he was leaving
the band to go live with an older glamour model
in LA all of which put us briefly into unchartered
water. I think he’s in unchartered water
as well!!! We landed on our feet very quickly
though when Mitch introduced us to his mate
Colin who is an incredible drummer and he fitted
very comfortably into the band.
Where
do you hope to see Cage The Gods in a year’s
time?
Well we’ll defiantly have our album out
and if all goes well we hope to be playing a
lot more shows, doing some more U.K headline
dates, playing at some cool festivals along
the way and getting over to some new countries.
One
last random question that we ask every band, if
you could be an animal out of a zebra or Giraffe
which one would you be and why?
Probably a Giraffe given it’s the tallest
terrestrial animal in the world. It also fights
using its neck which is cool. Would be pretty
good at head banging!
Thanks
for your time is there a message for your fans
reading this?
I just wanna thank everyone that has come to
see us over the past 12 months, everyone that’s
bought our music, likes the band and keeps spreading
the word. Thank you all.
