Karlie
caught up with Mojo Fury to talk about their current
tour with Inme, their next album and plans for
the future.
Mojo
Fury, for people that might not have heard of
you could you give us a brief description of the
band, and what you're about?
Well we've been a band for about 8 years, we've
been touring in England for the last 2 years,
we've toured with Oceansize and And So I Watch
You From Afar, and InMe now. Band-wise, we're
always getting compared to Biffy Clyro, meets
QOTSA, Nine Inch Nails.
You're
currently touring with InMe, how did this come
about?
Same management I guess. Since we recorded our
album they picked us up, and as we share a label
and we've done a fews in the past together and
struck up a friendship, it always helps when
you have to live together for 35 days on one
bus!
Are
there any venues you are looking forward to playing
more than others?
Rock City in Nottingham is always good, London,
obviously. We played Colchester Art Centre on
the first date of the tour and that's probably
our favourite venue.
What's
your favourite thing about being on tour?
This time it's nice because of the tour bus,
it makes a change to the transit van! Less responsibility,
not having to do the driving anymore! The driver
is a legend as well.
Your
latest album, Visiting Hours of a Traveling Circus
was released in May 2011, how has this been received
by fans?
Really well, we were blown away by the reaction
we got. It was the iTunes single of the week
for the second single from it, it was really
good.
Have
you got plans for a follow up to this album?
Straight away, as soon as we get home we're
starting it.
What
do you have planned once the tour is over?
Just the next album.
Can
we expect to see Mojo Fury at any UK festivals
this year?
Yeah, we did quite a few last year, we did a
few smaller ones like 2000 Trees, so we'll hopefully
be back to those, maybe Sonisphere [Since the
time of this interview it has been announced
that Sonisphere festival has been cancelled]
What
made you decide to become a 4 piece and have Micheal
move from behind the drum kit in 2009?
I just wanted to expand the sound and do other
things in the studio, and also just get into
the music more, get to move around. It's a bit
restrictive being behind the kit.
You've
supported some pretty big names, such as Biffy
Clyro, Cooper Temple Clause and Two Door Cinema
Club, have there been any you have enjoyed more
than others?
Our first proper tour in England was with Oceansize
so that was pretty special, we didn't realise
how big the tour was. It's quite hard for a
band to break out of Northern Ireland so it's
a really big thing for us.
Where
do you hope to see yourselves in 5 years time?
Playing our own shows, hopefully have about
3 albums out, touch base in America and Japan,
whatever happens just takes time.
What's
your most prized possession?
Our Hard Rocker award I expect. Mine is a mouse
I've been given at the minute to look after
on tour, we've been videoing it in every city.
It's called venue mouse.
A
real mouse?
Yes, it's a real mouse.
Awesome!
He's on tour with us, the bus driver has let
us bring him on the bus!
Who
are your main influences, musically and as individuals?
I grew up with The Beatles, I got into NIN quite
early on. Placebo and Nirvana changed things
a lot for me.
One
last question we ask every band, if you could
be an animal out of a zebra and a giraffe, which
would you be and why?
I would be a giraffe because I like giraffe
print more than zebra print.
Thank
you for taking the time to talk to us, Is there
a message you'd like to leave for your fans reading
this?
If you're in Belfast come and see us, or come
and check out one of our shows.
