Rob
caught up with Rob and Matt from Don Broco to
talk about supporting Four Year Strong, their
forthcoming album and their main highlights from
the past twelve months.
First
of all can you give us a brief history of the
band such as how you came together and came up
with the name Don Broco?
Rob, Vocals) Yeah, were all mates from school,
from day one, we've been a band now for about
3 years, touring the UK no stop since we started
really, bought out our first EP last February,
and that's when things kicked off for us.
Matt, Drums)We tried to tour as much as possible,it
was a self released EP, we got some good press
and momentum from it, then it all culminated last
summer, with us playing Reading and Leeds, a childhood
ambition realised for us.
Who
would you say your main musical influences are?
Rob) Were a rock band predominately, Incubus,
Biffy Clyro, Deftones, Reubanm Brand New, we listen
to pop punk too, like New found glory, Blink 182.
We bring as much as we can in to it to mix up
the songs as much as possible,
Matt) as with all bands we've diversified, we
also listen to bands like Maroon 5, bit of pp
in there,
You
are currently on the road supporting Four Year
Strong, how did this opportunity come about?
Rob) We heard that they were touring,we put the
feelers out and let people know that we'd love
to do it and it came off, and they were up for
It too.
Were stoked to be here, were massive fans of the
band, and the timing is right, we just finished
up in the studio, and its gonna be full steam
ahead now in 2012.
Tonight
is only the second night of the tour but how have
things been so far?
Were playing some new songs along with some classics.
Matt) We've only played in Brighton once, but
everything went to plan, no problems, couldnt
of asked for more. The FYS crowd were up for listening
to us.
Once
the current Four Year Strong tour comes to an
end what do you have planned?
Rob, Finshing off our stuff for the album, all
the boring stuff like admin, art work, promotion
stuff, photos, then doing our own tour in support
of the album then it'll be festival season.
I understand
that you have been busy working on your debut
album, how is that coming along and when can we
expect it to be released?
Matt) After playing Reading last year, we started
work on our album, Which at the moment is so close
to the end of the tunnel, we just gotta tweak
it here and there, and it should be with people
hopefully around the summer.
What
can you tell us about the forthcoming album?
If
you've heard our EP, if you liked that then you'll
love this album, its sort of a progression of
our sound, its heavy, its classic Broco sound,
heavy in parts, good mix of melodys and riffs,
lyrically its more personal that our last one,
personal issues, you'll have to listen to get
it all. its nice and varied.
What
would you say your biggest highs and lows as a
band have been so far?
Rob) the high was the festival season last year,
Reading and leeds was awesome, being on the
radio, TV, the BBC red button, Scott Mills playing
us.
Matt) The lows are playing to no one sometimes,
being cold and wet at venues, but we kept going,
its all worth it even if you have to spend a
few nights depressed
What
do you think about the digital revelation killing
off the music business?
Rob, MAtt) I think its great that the music
is so available, if there's something I've heard
I can instantly find it, I listen to a lot of
varied music now, now being in a band myself,
I think it should be up to the band how much
they wanna give away and hold back, but the
only way were gonna make money is people buying
CDs, coming to shows, buying merch, its gutting
that the amount of time and effort we've put
into making the album, an all the people involved
make something and then have it stolen.
Where
do you hope to see Don Broco in a year’s
time?
Rob, Matt) Well were very confident of this
album and we hope people love it as much as
we do, in a years time we hope to be getting
out more and touring out of the UK, like mainland
Europe and America, spreading the word, and
take the next step up.
One
last random question that we ask every band, if
you could be an animal out of a Zebra or a Giraffe
which would you be and why?
Matt) Zebra, the long neck on a giraffe seems
awkward! If I was in steel panther, I'd be wearing
the Zebra print.
Rob)I'd be a zebra they look cooler!
Thanks
for your time is there a message for your fans
reading this?
We just wanna thank our fans for sticking with
us, staying patient while we were in the studio,
which will be coming out soon, watch this space.
