Karlie
caught up with The Defiled for a brief chat before
their headline show at the Croft in Bristol to
talk about what they have been doing since their
last tour, festival plans and much more.
We
last spoke to you in Bristol on the Murderdolls
tour, what have you been up to since then?
AvD: Chilling the fuck out! Well, we’ve
released a deluxe edition of Grave Times, that
sold out and we’re on our second pressing
now which is pretty fucking cool.
Stitch D: It’s at number 51 in the UK album
chart. Haven’t got any money for it yet
but y’know [smiles]
AvD: We got annpounced for headlining the Jagermeister
stage at Sonisphere, which is pretty cool. We’re
up for nest new band on the Metal Hammer Golden
Gods.
Stitch D: And we have another announcement on
Tuesday… ( this was revealed that The Defiled
are also playing Bloodstock on the saturday)
How
did you find your overall experience whilst touring
with Murderdolls and Black Veil Brides?
AvD: It was fantastic, really cool. We all
exchanged CD’s and HIV’s…
the good aids, not the bad aids yeah? [laughs]
So
you’ve started recording a new music video,
can you tell us which song it is for and when
it’s getting released?
Stitch D: It’s for Black Death. It’s
about the plague. It’s the most literal
song we have.
AvD: It does delve in to various areas of what
happened in the plague, and why we are where
we are right now because of that. Half of you
have died and the song does say the selfish
survive again, and it’s true, that’s
who survived, the people that ran to the hills.
Stitch D: We haven’t shot the live element
of it yet, me and him [AvD] went and did the
plot/storyline, then we go and do the live bit
the weekend we get back. We were hoping to get
it done well before this tour but obviously
that didn’t happen.
You’re
touring at the moment alongside Romeo Must Die;
How did this come about and are you fans of their
music?
AvD: [Jokes] They’re touring alongside
us I think you’ll find! Get it right woman!
[Laughs]
Stitch D: We were toured with them years and
years ago, they took us out for a few shows,
and we all really like them. And when things
went well for us we kind of said, oh, wanna
go on tour with us?
AvD: We owe a lot to them, because when we first
played, that’s where they found us and
helped us.
Stitch D: We weren’t really doing anything
before that tour, once we did that tour that’s
when people started recognising us and we went
on the Deathstars tour, and it’s gone
up since then, so we definitely owe them.
AvD: It’s kind of good that we’re
all on tour and we’re all friends but
they’re a fucking good band and it’s
kind of a drag coming on after them but we get
through it.
This
is the ’13 – Unlucky for Some’
tour; who thought of the name and has it been
lucky for you so far?
AvD: Adam Sagir, he’s in a band called
Dripback, who you might wanna check out.
Stitch D: Our press man thought it would be
a good idea, it’s 13 days, 13 gigs, ending
on Friday 13th. It has been kind of unlucky.
Some shows have been amazing, with horrendous
behind the scenes actions. The last few gigs
have been a bit shoddy but everything else behind
has been perfect.
Avd: I think it’s all the same shit, we’re
used to it by now. It’s like the Murderdolls
tour, our van broke down, this tour, our van
broke down, so it kind of comes with the package.
So
it’s just been confirmed that you’re
headlining the Jagermeister stage at Sonisphere;
how does this make you feel?
AvD: It makes me feel like we shouldn’t
be headlining the Jagermeister festival, I mean
stage, shit! By the time it’s time to
play, we will have drank waaay too much Jagermeister
and it’s gonna be maniculous.
Stitch D: I don’t think many people are
going to come and see us because we’re
on just before the Big Four. We’re not
actually clashing though which is good. We’re
in between Slayer and Metallica.
So
will you be spending time checking out Slayer
and Metallica at Sonisphere?
AvD: Well, I’ve watched Slayer so many
times, I’ve been a fan for many years.
Stitch D: We’re not really going to get
to watch Slayer though cos that’s when
we’ll be setting up, which is a bit of
a shame. They’re the one out of the four
who I’d want to see most.
AvD: We’re probably going to be playing
other festivals as well, we’ve got an
announcement Tuesday.
We’ve
heard you’ve had trouble with your van again,
does everything seem to be running smoothly now?
Stitch D: It’s alive! Thanks to Phil
our tour manager. We love you Phil!
[Phil mumbles about how much it cost him to
fix the van]
What
do you enjoy most about being on tour?
Stitch D: The food. The sickness is what I
enjoy the most.
AvD: I enjoy the blowjobs…. mostly.
Stitch D: Blowjobs and bananas.
AvD: Sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll,
isn’t that why we all got into this business?
That’s what we enjoy, that’s what
we do.
What
do you dislike about being on tour?
Stitch D: Sickness, again.
AvD: Blowjobs. The STD’s.
Stitch D: Boredom more than anything I guess,
waiting around to go on stage once we’ve
set up etc.
What
are your plans once this tour has finished?
Stitch D: Well we’ve got the video, releasing
a single, festivals.
AvD: We’re gonna re-work the album properly,
we’re gonna re-sing that shit!
Stitch D: Go abroad a few times.
AvD: We’ve got a nice little surprise
when we release Black Death as a single as well,
but we have to keep it quiet at the moment.
We’ve got a few things coming up.
Stitch D: It depends if a few deals get swung
the correct way, and if they go to plan…
AvD: We’re gonna be millionaires by Christmas
Rodders!! [laughs]
Where
can your fans expect to see you this time next
year?
AvD: On bigger stages.
Stitch D: I’m gonna be a jizzmopper at
the local peep show.
AvD: Is that even a job??
Stitch D: Yeah ,jizzmopper, of course it is!
JizzmopperJizzmopper.
AvD: I’d like to be the jizz-ee.
If
you hadn’t have been so successful with
your music, what do you think you’d be doing
for a living now?
AvD: I’d be a milkman.
Stitch D: I’d actually quite like to be
a postman.
Thank
you for your time, we’ll be sure to check
you out at Sonisphere!
