We
sent Brave Yesterday some questions via e-mail
to find out how they have been enjoying being
in the music scene for a short time so far, future
touring plans and much more.
Hello
and thank you for taking time out to answer these
questions!
First
of all can you give us a brief history of the
band such as how you came together as a band and
came up with the name Brave Yesterday?
We’ve been together a few years now. We’d
all gigged together in different bands when
we were younger and knew each other through
that. We all met in a bar and discussed what
we wanted to do and took it from there. Since
that night things have been gradually pushing
forward and we’ve had some great opportunities
so far.
The name Brave Yesterday will mean something
different to everyone, so we’ll let you
make your interpretation.
Who
would you say your main musical influences are?
We all listen to different kinds of music so
we have a real mix of influences in the band.
Some of us take influence from bands like Underoath,
Every Time I Die and Comeback Kid, some of us
prefer more laid back music like City and Colour,
Death Cab for Cutie and Bjork.
You
released your latest EP ‘The Truth Is’
back on the 8th January, what response have you
had from it so far?
It’s all been really positive so far.
We’ve had a lot of support from the folks
in Jersey and they’ve been great coming
to our Jersey shows and learning the new songs.
We’ve had some awesome feedback from people
around the UK and further afield as well so
it’s great hearing good things from all
over.
You
teamed up with the guys from The Animal Farm to
work on ‘The Truth Is’ what were they
like to work with?
We’d met Ville once before in London so
we weren’t going in completely new to
the guys there. They’re all really down
to earth guys who enjoy what they do and have
fun while they’re doing it. They’re
serious about what they do, but don’t
take themselves too seriously so that helped
us settle in and do our best. They had some
really sick ideas too, which we welcomed with
open arms.
You
have a video section on your MySpace page which
is currently blank, does that mean a music video
is currently in the works? And if so what song
will it be for?
That’s right, it is blank! We’re
working on a video for The Truth Is… at
the moment. That should be up soon.
I
understand you
played a few shows supporting McFly, that must
have been some experience, how did you go down
with the McFly fans?
We supported them on our home turf so we had
the bonus of a local following, but I think
we were received well by their fans…at
least Danny Jones seemed to think so! It was
one of the biggest gigs in our career so far
and it was an amazing crowd, hopefully we’ll
see more like it.
You
also took part performing at the Jersey Live Festival
in 2009 how did this come about and did you manage
to check out any bands at the festival?
Being a local band in Jersey gives you the shoe
in to play in the annual Jersey Live Battle
of the Bands. Basically all the best bands in
Jersey get together and play a 3 hour mini-festival,
usually in front of crowds of 1,000+. We nabbed
the top spot and won a slot on the Main Stage
and a headlining slot in the Big Tease tent.
We saw most of the Main Stage acts over the
weekend like Basement Jaxx, The Temper Trap
and well, the list goes on. We wanted to see
as many of our friends bands as we could and
since all bands competing in the Battle won
a slot in the Big Tease tent for local bands,
we spent a lot of time in there.
You
currently only have a few live shows announced
for Jersey and Guernsey, can we expect you to
head to England and the rest of the UK for a full
length tour in the near future?
We’re going to be booking a mini-tour
for June this year hopefully playing around
London and maybe Manchester too. As for a full
length tour of the UK, who knows what’s
going to happen in 2010.
MySpace
seems to be a big tool in the music industry these
days with bands communicating with their fans
over it and some even ditching their own website
and having just a MySpace site, what are your
opinions on MySpace as a tool in the music industry?
We’ve relied heavily on promotion through
MySpace and increasingly through Facebook. Different
bands have different tactics for promotion,
I guess you have to go with what you know and
what works and MySpace definitely gets band’s
the exposure they need. MySpace seems to have
become the main place for bands to promote and
be heard. It’s probably more a band promotion
vehicle than a general networking facility now
a days.
Where
would you like to see Brave Yesterday in a year’s
time?
Hopefully we’ll be more present across
the UK by 2011, but who knows what the future
holds for us. We’re trying to take things
one step at a time and not get ahead of ourselves
too much. Writing and gigging are the priorities
right now.
One
random question that we ask every band, if you
could be an animal out of a Zebra and a Giraffe
which one would you be and why?
Giraffes. Fun fact about Giraffes, they only
sleep deeply for a few minutes at a time, otherwise
they’re just dozing.
Thanks
for your time do you have a message for your fans
reading this?
Dear fans of Brave Yesterday, listen to our
music and then tell all of your friends!!
