Rob
caught up with Therapy? back stage at the Wulfrun
Hall in Wolverhampton to talk about the bands
history, their current tour and what they have
planned for the future.
Hello
and thank you for taking time out to do this interview!
Last
time we interviewed you was back in May, what
have you been doing since then?
(Andy) Weve been doing alot of
gigs and festivals this summer, its been busy
which is nice.
You
are currently on your UK tour, how has it been
going so far?
(Mike) Its been absolutly briliiant,
We were talking about this the other day, this
has been the best start to a tour weve ever had,
we found our groove early on and weve had a great
reaction from the fans,
(Andy) Its been stress free,
we got a good crew and were playing really really
well, sometimes when we go on tour it takes a
while to get into it, but since the release of
Crooked Timber its been brilliant.
Ricky
Warwick is supporting on the tour, how has it
been touring with him?
(Mike) Hes been going down really
well, hes quite different to the support bands
we normally tour with, we known ricky for a long
long time, hes very good at what he does and comands
alot of respect from the audience also, we dont
need to take bands on tour that sound exactly
like therapy.
Your
show at Oxford Academy falls on Halloween, can
we expect you guys to dress up and put on a spooky
show for the fans?
(Andy) For the first time ever,
were gonna do the whole dress up thing, we posted
on our message boards that if any one wants to
dress up there welcome to, someone suggesed it
then ricky said that if you guys are gonna do
then so will I, then everyone else working on
this tour said that there gonna dress up aswell.
Were gonna go with the black metal look an get
the corpse paint out.
Once
your UK tour is over you are heading straight
over to mainland Europe to play many shows, are
there any shows, towns or venues you are looking
forward to playing more than others?
(Andy) It always goes really
well for us in certain parts of europe, but there
are places weve never been to like Arnem in Holland,
were going back to Poland, we got 4 gigs in italy
in Milan an Rome, were going to places like austria,
switzland and germany in november which will be
nice because of all the Christmas markets.
(Mike) Itll good to go to these
places and see some old friends, its a good mix
of old and new places that were going to keep
it fresh.
(Neil) I try to take it one step
at a time and try not to pin hopes on one gig
or one area.
You
are playing the Damination Festival at Leeds University
on Saturday, have you played here before and how
do the indoor festivals compare to the more large
scale outdoor festivals?
(Andy) Weve played in leeds before
doing our own gigs and we have played at the university
also, weve done a few indoors before, but this
one im really looking forward to as theres a few
bands that i wanna see, an irish band can watch
you from afar that i really like, im looking forward
to the festival as a day out aswell.
So
you are pretty busy until the start of December,
are you going to have a nice long rest over the
festive period? And what can we expect of Therapy?
In 2010?
(Andy) Were off in december and
early january but we start again in late january
touring in greece, then finland then austrailia
in march i think, then the latest album gets released
in the states, there talks of a few gigs there,
adn then its the 20th anniversary shows!
You
have been together as a band for nearly 20 years
now! Do you have any special years to celebrate
your 20 years as a band?
(Andy) Hopefully we'll be recording
a few shows then release a live album which is
something we've never done, were gonna make a
big deal of it , its amazing to be in a band 20
years down the line.
If
you could share the stage with any band or artist
past or present who would it be and why?
(Andy) id like to see what a
female singer would do in this band, maybe debbie
Harris
(Neil) id like to see vegas era
Elvis (laughter)
Do
you prefer being out on the road touring or being
in the studio making new music?
(Neil) Theres no one betters
than the other, you get stuck into a mind set
of writing and recording, you know that youll
have 6-12 months in that mind set, then when your
done you'll be happy with it, then you go out
on tour with it, im to an throe between the two,
(Andy) Im really inpatient with
it, im like, rights thats two takes im done (
laughter), i prefere touring, i like listening
back to albums but i get really bord in the studio,
Where
do you see Therapy? In the next 5 years?
(Andy) I would like to think
in 5 years time were still be moving onwards and
upwards and still have a worldwide record deal,
but we dont know whats around the corner, i still
enjoy this, i dont feel my age and it doesnt feel
that ive been in a band for this long, ive learned
more to live in the moment, in the past i havent
enjoyed it, and have been worrying about bad reviews,
maybe its being a family man now, that all seems
rediculous now, i should have enjoyed it alot
more in the past.
(Mike) theres so much going on,
im really enjoying whats going at the moment,
day to day.
One
last question that we ask every band if you had
a choice out of being an animal out of a Zebra
and a Giraffe, which one would you be and why?
(Andy) Id rather be a zebra,
being a giraffe looks uncomfortable
(Mike) Id reather be a zebra,
im closer to the ground and more versatile
(Neil) Id like to be a Giraffe
just to go against these guys (Laughter)
