Metal
Hammer and Classic Rock, Both huge music magazines
in England, have both joined forces to bring the
UK the first 'Lords of the Riff Tour'. The tour
included 9 dates spread over the whole month of
March 2014, Bringing fans of classic Rock n' Roll
3 great Bands, 2 all the way from America and
the other from Swansea - Buffalo Summer, Scorpion
Child and the headliners, Monster Truck, All three
bands for just a 'tenner' isn't bad at all.
As
i made my way to the busy O2 academy 3 in Birmingham
i could definitely tell what kind of genre these
3 bands were and what to expect, the small cramped
room was filled with a mixture of Sweaty young
and old of both gendered people with long hair,
i was guessing they were all ready to head bang,
whip their long hair about and rock out to their
favourite bands and i was right. Unfortunately
i arrived half way through Scorpion Childs set
but from what i saw the crowd were really pleased
with their performance and couldn't get enough
of them, i even go their just in time to see the
lead singer make his way to the front
of the barrier to talk to fans half way through
the bands set. Even though i didn't see much of
Scorpion Child, i still got lots of good photos
of them, this band was more photogenic than i
first thought, if that doesn't sound silly.
As Scorpion Child finished their set and walked
off stage, the academy's floor emptied for a short
while as nearly everyone went to the bar to grab
their last drinks and stepped out side to have
a quick cigarette. It wasn't long before the place
was crowded and sweaty again just before headliners
for this tour, Monster Truck hit the stage.
It's
so clear to see that this band doesn't take any
crap and doesn't care what any body thinks of
them, as the band slogan goes " Don't Fuck
With The Truck" as also seen on shirts of
many fans in the academy, this band are just out
to have fun and make music.
The 5 piece band who looked a tad like hairy bikers
knew exactly how to get the crowd on their side.
Vocalist and bassist 'Jon Havey' shows his true
colours on stage blasting out fan favourites like
'Old Train' from the top of his voice whilst Guitarist
'Jeremy Widerman' brings all the energy to the
stage, if you ever go to a Monster Truck show
be sure to watch Jeremy
as he truly is the spark of the band. At one point
during the show, Jeremy had one foot on the stage
and the other on the barrier where fans still
stood head banging their long hair, with his guitar
just honestly enjoying himself, it was almost
like he was at a party and he was playing air
guitar because his favourite rock n roll song
just came on. I had a really good night that night
and enjoyed watching these 2 amazing Rock n Roll
bands, so if any one ever gets a chance to see
either of these two bands be sure to get a ticket
straight away because you will definitely be in
for a treat, so
Scorpian Child 5/5
Monster Truck 5/5
