Dave
McPherson is first up tonight, and right from
the get go the banter and crowd connection is
there, with light hearted jokes and beautiful
melodies, and a voice that can soothe you, I personally
could listen to him for hours!
'Kingdom', 'Snowball', and 'Love Rats' are just
some of the tracks from tonight's set, all performed
with genuine feeling and heart. Although Dave
is feeling a bit under the weather this evening,
he informs us, you would never tell as he gives
yet another amazing performance from start to
finish. A genuine gent, nice one Dave!
Simon
Townshend, (Younger brother of Pete Townshend,
The Who.), is next to take to the stage.
Bringing a good solid acoustic rock sound, with
some top notch vocals he goes down a storm with
the crowd. 'Forever and a Day', and 'Bed Of Roses'
were the highlights of the set, with a fair bit
of banter in between tracks. Certainly worth checking
out if you get a chance, a real charismatic performer.
Big
Country appear on stage to the biggest applause
I have heard for some time, as they launch into
'Look Away' the crowd are jumping and singing
along, with a solitary Big Country flag being
wafted about along the front barrier.
The band's new album 'The Journey' is a very poignant
one. It's dedicated to the memory of Stuart Adamson,
the founder of Big Country, who sadly passed away
in 2001. Mike Peters, (vocals) explains that when
the group of 5 play onstage, you see 5 but there
is always 6 up there, Stuart's memory truly lives
on through them all.
Continuing
the lively set with 'The Journey', 'Home Of The
Brave' and the huge 'Fields of Fire', we witness
such great energy on the stage between the band,
smiling, joking, doing little jigs around one
another and all the time keeping a fantastic bond
with the vast amount of loyal fans here tonight.
Set closers are 'Another Country' and 'Wonderland',
the energy is still at maximum level as we move
to the encore, 'In a Big Country'. The band leave
to another huge applause, and it's very well deserved,
easily one of the top 5 gigs I have been to this
year so far.
Dave Mcpherson 5/5
