We
headed to the Hammersmith Apollo in London for
comical rockers Steel Panthers biggest ever headline
show in the UK and what a blast it was.
When we first got to the venue it was rammed and
there was a wide mixture of people there, many
dressed up with rock star wigs with various different
patterned skin tight lycra rock star leggings
on and also many people looking like your average
gig goer with their band t-shirts and jeans on,
we headed into the main room and within moments
the lights went down and screen at the back of
the stage turned on and featured a short introduction
of steel Panther backstage, as soon as the video
faded out Steel Panther took to the stage opening
up with ‘Supersonic Sex Machine’ which
was then followed up by the ever so catchy ‘Tomorrow
Night’.
After
the second song Steel Panther spent a solid 10
minutes talking to the crowd and generally throwing
banter around, Lexxi Foxxx spent most of this
time looking into his compact mirror checking
himself and redoing his makeup whilst pouting
to the photographers at every opportunity, whilst
front man Michael Starr and guitarist Satchel
spent the time throwing banter around at each
other and the crowd and in that time they went
from talking their well known dirty ways of general
sexual jokes, to encouraging girls in the crowd
to get their boobs out whilst Michael Starr captured
it on his booby cam to throwing drum sticks to
Stix Zadinia only for him to break it which caused
Michael Starr to
lay into the X Factor and One Direction claiming
that they have never broke a drum stick and that
they should be locked up in Nottingham castle
which was met with a loud roar of cheers from
the crowd, Michael Starr then went on to say that
they have been talking to Andy Copping backstage
and he has booked them to headline Download Festival,
this was also met with loud cheers until Michael
Starr added “in the year 2024 as Metallica
would of retired and be too old to play then”
which caused the crowed to erupt in laughter.
After
a lot of talking the music soon progressed with
Steel Panther playing classic songs from both
albums such as ‘Fat Girl’ ‘Just
Like Tiger Woods’, ‘Girl From Oklahoma’
and ‘Asian Hooker’ with the later
of the songs featuring censored hardcore porn
images on the screen behind the band whilst ‘Girl
From Oklahoma’ featured a different set
of male balls on the screen every time Michael
Starr sang “come on pretty baby suck my
balls all night”, the comedy factor ran
for the majority of the night but things got slightly
serious when Satchel treated us to a guitar solo
which featured a bit of pretty much every classic
rock band/song you could ever think of and as
the show progressed Def Leppard guitarist Vivian
Campbell made a guest appearance to help out with
the classic Dio song ‘Rainbow In The Dark’
and ‘Death To All But Metal’.
The
show came to an end with a 3 song encore which
featured ‘Community Property’, ‘Eyes
Of A Panther’ and ‘17 Girls In A Row’
with confetti being fired out of cannons to mark
the end of the show.
Steel Panther were on top form tonight they were
as rude and crude as ever and managed to shock,
please and entertain the whole crowd with their
unpredictable nature whilst knocking out some
of the best old skool rock influenced songs that
have been released over the last 5 years, the
only thing I felt was missing from tonights show
was 'The Shocker' and 'Weenie Ride' but after
entertaining for nearly 2 hours there was no time
to fit these songs in.
