Well
there are only a handful of people here tonight
at the Birmingham O2 Academy 2, and probably for
good reason too. The Milk are the only band playing
and are on stage for a massive, one hour set!
At £10 a ticket, a half price refund should
be given to these fans, as I've seen 4 bands play
for this ticket price on a night, seems like an
awful waste of a night to me. Apparently the only
support pulled out due to illness
The Milk are a 4 piece Essex based funk rock band,
incorporating other influences into their sound
such as, Soul, RnB and Pop. They finally start
their set with 'Hometown', in which they sound
a little like a toned down version of Maroon 5
which I'd say they pretty much sound like throughout
their soul filled set, but its a decent opener.
Next up is '(All I Wanted Was ) Danger' followed
by 'Mr Motivator' which goes straight into a 4th
song.
With
the many influences they claim to have there's
not much deviation in the way their songs sound,
they also have a backing track running behind
what they are playing, with random noise by the
sound of it.
They have a good full sound; the pace of the songs
could do with a kick to give them some more life.
They continue on with 'Kimmi Kimmi', a quite lively
song with a solid drum beat, in which the band
bounce along with at times. The guitar work is
pretty good; I enjoy the guitar tone of the songs
at times, quite bluesy, which is cool.
Their hour long set pretty much made up of tracks
from their debut album, 'Tales from the Thames
Delta', and a newly written song called 'Kicking
the Smoke', which takes things up a notch, it's
nicely catchy.
Overall they are a decent band but they sound
far too much like Maroon 5 which at some point
may very well work against them, but they are
worth a look if you are into this type of sound.
The Milk 3.5/5
