Tonight
Lacuna Coil headed to the Koko in Camden to play
the final show of their UK tour, before the show
we managed to catch up with vocalist Andrea Ferro
who told us how they have been touring relentlessly
since they were last on a headline tour of the
UK back in November 2011 and that on the 25th
of November they finally get a two month break
where they will be relaxing over the festival
period whilst also throwing ideas around for new
material, before heading out on the road again
in the new year.
With
this year being the fifteenth anniversary of Lacuna
Coil they decided to put together ‘The Dark
Legacy Tour’ a tour which see’s them
play a 2 hour set which features 2 electric sets
and 1 acoustic set in the middle with 24 songs
being played in total making up an massive greatest
hits performance for the band, their fans and
generally anyone in attendance at any of the shows.
Before Lacuna Coil took to the stage tonight I
spoke to a few fans in the crowd who were hoping
that Lacuna Coil would play more old stuff than
new as they weren’t big fans of their
new stuff, as soon as I explained that they were
due to play for 2 hours and playing songs from
every album they seemed pretty excited for the
night ahead and so they should have been as Lacuna
Coil were on top form tonight.
Lacuna Coil took to the stage just before 9pm
and the first thing I noticed was that bassist
Marco Zelati and drummer Criz Mozatti was missing,
however later on in the show Cristina Scabbia
took time to explain to the crowd that Criz Mozatti
has taken a couple of weeks off as he has just
become a father and like any good dad wants to
spend a
bit of time with his child before heading on the
road again, she then went on to explain that Bassist
Marco Zelati had to pull out of the tour due to
an injury to his arm only for him to come on stage
to surprise Cristina and show his respect.
Cristina Scabbia and Andrea Ferro took to the
stage in what appeared to look like military uniforms
with a nurse style red cross bandana across their
face as the band blasted into set opener ‘I
Don’t Believe In Tomorrow’, the song
went down a storm with the mosh pit buzzing with
energy as Scabbia and Ferro covered their own
unique vocals in a rock off style way as they
moved closer to each other whilst laying down
their vocals and busting some tasty moves at the
same time.
The
first part of the set included some really big
crowd pleasers such as ‘Kill The Light’,
‘Entwined’ and the ‘Dark Adrenaline’
sing-a-long ‘Give Me Something More’,
after ‘Give Me Something More’ Scabbia
announced to the crowd that we will be back in
a minute and it will be worth the wait, a couple
of minutes went by and Lacuna Coil re-emerged
on stage sporting a costume change and wasted
no time in playing a 5 song acoustic set which
started with ‘Falling’ and ending
with their 2009 album title track ‘Shallow
Life’, the acoustic set broke the show up
well and gave the energetic people at the front
of the crowd time to get their energy back before
the metal commenced for another 10 songs.
After
the short acoustic set Lacuna Coil went off stage
for another outfit change however this time around
it felt like a lifetime even though it was probably
no more than 5 minutes, but luckily when Lacuna
Coil returned to the stage they upped their game
kicking off with the extremely heavy ‘Our
Truth’, the final part of the set featured
many big songs such as ‘Upsidedown’,
‘To Live Is To Hide’, ‘Fragile’,
‘Trip The Darkness’ but it was the
set closer ‘My Spirit’ which brought
a lot of emotion to the night as Scabbia explained
how the song was wrote about the late Peter Steele
from Type O Negative who was a good friend of
the band and a big influence when Lacuna Coil
first started up as a band.
I
feel that Lacuna Coil’s hard work and constant
touring is paying off as tonight’s show
was outstanding they put everything into it and
looking at each band member whilst performing
it seemed that they were equally having as much
fun on stage as the fans were in the pit singing-a-long
word for word, the only downside of the night
was the waiting time between each set but in the
end it was worth it to experience such an epic
24 track greatest hits style set.
Lacuna Coil 5/5
