I
headed down to Bath to see Pure Love play their
10th ever show which took place at the ever so
intimate Moles club venue in the city, I arrived
at the venue early to interview Jim Carroll and
Frank Carter from the band and just from spending
20 minutes with them I could tell how much passion
they have about Pure Love and also what a natural
fun friendship they have together and I also got
a good insight into where they want Pure Love
to be in the near future and if tonight’s
show was anything to go by I can’t see them
playing the toilet sized venues for much longer
as the Academy sized venues is where Pure Love
will be playing in 2013.
Pure
Love took to the stage just before 10pm and from
the start Frank Carter picked up his mic stand
and placed it on the floor in with the crowd and
rocked out with newly crafted rock anthems ‘She’
and ‘Hits’ which went down extremely
well with half the crowd singing along to these
unreleased songs. As the set progressed Frank
couldn’t decide if he wanted to be on stage
or with the crowd so he spent a lot of bouncing
between the two, Jim Carroll spent the majority
of the set with his long hair covering his face
whilst he knocked out many impressive guitar riffs
and laid down his well loved backing vocals.
Throughout
the 40minute set Pure Love managed to play 9 tracks
and it was the double whammy of ‘Bury My
Bones’ and ‘Handsome Devils Club’
which got the crowd psyched the most with pretty
much everyone bouncing up and down and many people
joining Frank and the band on their poor excuse
of a tiny stage whilst letting off as much energy
as possible.
If tonight’s show is anything to go by then
the debut album from Pure Love is going to be
well worth the wait as there was some surprising
moments tonight such as when they played ‘Anthem’
which was actually a slow paced ballad where Frank
spent the whole time in with the crowd singing
his heart out and not to forget the set closer
‘Riot’ which had the crowd going mad
for the last time and as Frank laid down his final
vocals of the night he threw his mic on the floor
and
stormed through the crowd up the stairs and out
of the venue leaving the rest of the band of the
stage which in my eyes was a perfect finish which
proves that Frank Carter is still the unpredictable
front man that so many have grown to love.
For a band that have been around for roughly a
year and only have two singles to their name Pure
Love put on a storming show tonight and laid down
8 rock anthems and 1 ballad that gave you a good
insight into their debut album 'Anthems' whilst also rocking out like a band who have been together for years despite only playing 10 shows to date.
Pure Love 5/5
