The band im here for tonight are Soni-Quella a local 4 piece band, that Im sure probably fall into one of the many hardcore music scenes sub categories. They tonight they seem to be content with trying to blast the audience into oblivion by being overly loud in such a small venue as the Flapper! Thu guitar work is pretty damn good as is the drumming also hearing the bass being pretty good too, theres even some synth thrown in there for good measure as well. To nights gig seems to have bought out all the photographers, as Ive seen less togs at much bigger gigs, tonight however has also brought a crowd too, never seen it so packed in the flapper before either! The performance and music, not really to my taste, but hiding in the assault on your ears is some melodic music just turned up to 11, I want to dislike it but I cant! By the end I got tired of the constant loudness, having no earplugs didnt help either, but i do like bands to vary the pace, tempo and volume just to show that know more than just one speed or volume!

For a visual performance, you wont see many bands giving it there all, playing the shit out of there instruments, and again a volume just a tad to big for a small venue!

Rolo Tomassi, a band that has recently become a Jagermeister sponsored band, they really have packed out this venue Im pretty sure they could have done the same to a bigger venue, I know it would have been good for me as I couldn't make it to the front, and as there is no barrier in the Flapper, the crowds is literally in front of the stage in fact a stray swung guitar or flying drumstick could easily take a fan down as the crowd is almost on the stage. They start as the mean to go on, with unrelenting energy, launching themselves across the small stage, giving it anymore would result in some sore heads as the ceiling isn't what Id call Photo Of Soni-Quella © Copyright Robert Lawrencehigh. The crowd are also the most active ive seen them all night, many nodding heads and a few really letting fly, its a spectacle to behold! This progressive hardcore/mathcore act, play such oldish songs as Abraxes, Oh hello,Ghost, and a few new ones off a soon to be released new album. Most of the tracks im not familiar with as I wouldn't say I was a fan, I just know a few tunes. There sound to me seems a tad random, melodic part, hardcore part, it seems the melody has no real place or purpose in alot of there songs, other than a quick breather, but you can fault the musicianship or the crowd they've drawn tonight, its good stuff, just not my bag!

Soni-Quella – 4/5
