We all know that Static-X are a great live band
but how would they fare in front of the Belfast
masses? This was only their third UK show ever.
The second being the previous night in Glasgow
and the first being the day before that at Download.
They were well out of their comfort zone but it
did not show.
They hit the stage playing ‘Lunatic’,
the opening track from their new album. The crowd
loved it. They played almost exactly 45 minutes
which was really good for a support slot.
Each member of the band has their own unique
personality onstage. The drummer is just a maniac,
like all drummers. Only kidding. He was loving
every minute of the set, beating the shit out
of his kit in the process. Tony on bass stomped
around the stage while Koichi on lead guitar was
more methodical, standing in one spot for the
most part. When he caught your eye, the intensity
you saw was amazing. Wayne is just a great showman.
While you saw he enjoyed himself, you knew that
he was concentrating hard to make sure everything
was perfect. He did have fun but the impression
I got was that he is a perfectionist - which is
no bad thing. It showed that he was proud of his
band and wanted to give the best performance possible.
The aggressive vocals with heavy guitars brought
together with an underlying techno and industrial
sound makes for a very interesting live show.
I highly recommend you catch Static-X’s
live show the next time they hit your town.
