Bowling For Soup are back with their tenth studio-album
and after listening to the album many times over
in my car I admit that I am actually addicted to
it, the album features the same formula as every
Bowling For Soup album in the way that the band
have created 14 really upbeat and catchy poppy-punk
songs that are full of humorous and quite immature
lyrics that always manage to put a smile on your
face.
The album opens with ‘A Really Cool Dance
Song’ , the song is a bit of a tongue in
cheek song that’s pretty much taking the
piss out of how the music scene is today with
pretty much every band these days making dance
song’s and songs that heavily feature synths,
and the greatest thing about the song is that
even though Bowling For Soup are taking the piss,
they have also created the catchiest song of the
album and Jaret Reddick’s lyrics joke about
how the song is going to be a great big hit and
hit number one and that it is Bowling For Soup’s
new sound, obviously this isn’t Bowling
For Soup’s new sound, but if the song does
get released as a single then I really do believe
that it could become a hit for the band.
‘No Hablo Ingles’ is another upbeat
poppy-punk song that will make you smile as Jaret
states that all you need to do to get out of doing
things is say ‘No Hablo Ingles’ to
everything, the lyrics of the song features many
different questions such as “Would I take
him to the Jonas Brothers Movie”, “Did
you brush your teeth”, “Where did
you leave your pants” with Jaret replying
with ‘No Hablo Ingles’ to them all.
The lead single release from the album is ‘My
Wena’, now this song has grown on me a lot
from when I first heard it, it is another tongue
in cheek poppy punk song about a girlfriend called
Wena but the song features many double entendres
that make you wonder if Jaret is singing about
his penis or his girlfriend, the lyrics are fun
and quirky and if they don’t leave you smiling
then I think it’s about time to hunt for
your sense of humour again.
‘Only Young’ really reminds me of
Good Charlotte, it is a real big sing-a-long track
that sounds like it came from the Good Charlotte
‘Chronicles Of Life And Death’ era,
I am sure the song is going to become a fan favourite
within the younger generation of Bowling For Soup
fans.
‘I Don’t Wish You We’re Dead
Anymore’ is a real quirky experimental track,
it starts off with a real catchy piano piece before
heading off on a melodic journey. ‘BFFF’
is a real crude song but it is fun and done in
the typical Bowling For Soup Humour with the catchy
chorus of “You will tell the world I’m
gay when you hear me say that I truly feel this
way, even though there is nothing wrong with being
gay, sometimes we punch each other in the face
like when I hit on your mum and got to second
base, I’m trying to tell you that I love
you in an heterosexual way”.
‘Hooray For Beer’ is every hardcore
beer drinkers love song as the song expresses
Bowling For soup’s love for their favourite
alcoholic beverage which happens to be beer, the
chorus has Jaret singing “Hooray for beer,
I’m really glad your her, let’s make
this moment last, it feels so right I’m
going to be with you all night, let’s shout
it out Hooray for beer”, any beer drinker
who has a good night on the beer and doesn’t
want the night to end can relate to this song.
I could carry on mentioning the good things about
each track on the album but their really isn’t
any point, all you need to know is that if you
have every bought or enjoyed a Bowling Fro Soup
single or album then you are going to love ‘Sorry
For Partyin’, it may not be the best album
that they have released but it sure is a lot of
fun and an album that you won’t be able
to put down for a little while.
