Disco Ensemble are a four piece hardcore band from Finland, a country that
is well known for its gothic and black metal bands and its good to see Disco
Ensemble doing things a bit differently with their punk/hardcore sound.
If you have read my reviews of the bands previous single releases you will
know I have been really impressed with this band and have been looking forward
to there debut UK album 'First Aid Kit' for a few months now.
The album is now here and is twelve tracks long starting off with the
b-side to the bands first single, 'This Is My Head Exploding' which is
one of my favourite tracks on the album and the most heaviest track on
the album and has angry, shouted lyrics. Track two, 'We Might Fall Apart'
is the bands first main single and is a fast song that is crammed full
of energy and quite catchy in places. Track three, 'Drop Dead Casanova'
is absolutely stunning and my favourite track on the album. The song starts
off quite mellow and then gets more shouty/screamo for the chorus which
will stick in your head for days, the song finishes with a brutal assault
of shouted vocals.
The thing I really like about Disco Ensemble is they have produced a
twelve track album and each track varies in sound in some way so there’s
a huge mixture of songs. You have the mellowness of 'Human Cannonball',
to the catchiness of 'Eyes Of A Ghost', to the punk, radio friendliness
of the bands next single 'Black Euro' which is just stunning. The album
finishes with 'Sleep On The Wheel' which is a very slow song with lots
of different beats and sounds thrown in.
Overall the album is as good as I was expecting if not better and is
a mixture of punk melodies to raw hardcore shouting with loads of changes
of sounds throughout. The band are certainly talented as this album shows,
try and check them out on there next outing to the UK.
