Cinders Fall are a band who formed way back in 2004,
now I have heard a lot about Cinders Fall from various
different people, I know that they have been through
their fair share of line up changes and I also know
that they have toured across the UK on many occasions
but spending the majority of their time touring
the London and Essex area building up a steady local
fan base, but the off thing is that I have never
heard the band’s music, well until now as
I have just received their new 5 track EP ‘The
Reckoning’ which is being released on Transcend
Records and I have to say wow it is fantastic and
that I really should of listened to what these people
said all those years ago and watched these guys
grow and go from strength to strength.
‘The Reckoning’ is a massive sounding
EP, all the songs on the EP are great and carry
a really strong sound filled with massive riffs,
tub thumping bass, hectic drumming and a real
fast set of raw Dani Filth style vocals that you
can’t help but like, the overall feel of
the band’s sound is the like the fast pace
of Children Of Bodom crossed with the vocal style
of both Alexi Laiho and Dani Filth, with Anthony
Masters merging both vocal styles together whilst
adding his own unique edge.
The EP starts with ‘Dead Zone’ and
what an introduction the song has with its thrash
metal drumming, powerful fast paced guitar riffs
and Children Of Bodom style keyboard sounds and
if that’s not enough, frontman Anthony Masters
vocals come in like a man on a mission with his
fast yet furious sounding vocals which help take
the song on a slight melodic journey whilst keeping
everything metal.
‘The Sorrow’ follows on where ‘Dead
Zone’ left off but gets a bit more technical
with its crunching guitar riffs and beautiful
guitar solo’s, as the song progresses it
gets catchy thanks to the tuneful guitar riffs
and powerful vocals from Anthony Masters.
‘Beyond Existence’ is just as good
as the previous two songs, it manages to impress
you in every way from the crunching riffs to the
big drum beats to the thumping bass and free flowing
in your face yet catchy vocals.
‘Inside’ starts off with a riff that
could easily of been lifted from a Korn song but
it progresses so much on from that with its constant
riffage and drum beats which make for a lengthy
but much welcomed introduction.
The last track on the EP is the title track ‘The
Reckoning’ and the track is the perfect
finisher to a great EP but the sad thing is when
the song finishes you are left wanting more and
will be forced to press play again and again just
so you can listen to the EP over and over again
in hope that something new will jump out at you.
Cinders Fall are one of the best thrash metal
bands that the UK has produced in a long time,
the only bad thing that I can see within their
new EP ‘The Reckoning’ is that each
song sounds so similar but I personally don’t
see that as being a problem as that is just the
style that Cinders Fall have developed and opted
with and it works ever so well and I can guarantee
that ‘The Reckoning’ will still be
spinning in my CD player and playing on my Ipod
for a long time as the album is outstanding and
I can’t wait to see these guys at a live
show as I am sure it will be a experience never
to forget.
5/5
