The Japanese Voyeurs are a new 5-piece band from
London and from looking at their MySpace page they
don’t seem to like to reveal what they look
like and instead fill their photos page with various
different crazy photos involving sweets, and yes
you can create crazy photos involving sweets, just
check these guys MySpace page out, but also be very
careful if you Google them as you might get a shock
with some of the results that may pop up.
So the band are unleashing their new EP ‘Sicking
And Creaming’ on the 5th October on Slimeball
Records, the EP technically isn’t new as
it just features a bunch of old demos that the
band recorded a long time ago but have decided
to get them released after a very random story
that backs up their reasons to release the EP.
The EP starts off with ‘Dumb’ the
song starts off with some decent guitar riffs
and then seconds later Romily Alice’s vocals
come in, now her vocals are a lot different from
your average vocals and they have a bit of a Marmite
feel about them where you either love or hate
them, I can honestly see her vocals pissing a
lot of people off but as for me I quite like them
and I also like the fast paced random style they
have developed with their music.
‘X-Ray Ted’ isn’t as good as
the opening track but Romily Alice is still as
passionate with her vocals with her high pitched
squealing, the guitars and bass are full of rhythm
and the drumming is constant yet pretty average
sounding.
‘You’re So Cool’ see’s
a slightly different style in Alice’s vocals,
they are more like the vocal style of Brody Dalle
who used to be the frontwomen for The Distillers
and they come across more soft and beautiful sounding,
especially as she sings “You’re so
cool, you’re so cool’ over and over
again during the chorus.
Overall The Japanese Voyeurs are a random sounding
Grunge rock band who like to be different from
the rest, they like to do and say things to shock
people, on record they sound good, it’s
like The Zico Chain mixed with Nirvana with Brody
Dalle or Gwen Stafani on vocals it not something
you can quite imagine but once you have heard
it you will appreciate it.
