Slunt - One Night Stand.Slunt – One Night Stand

Woah, blown away instantly with an awesome guitar riff for track one, “When You Like It.” It's quite heavy, but it's not offensive, it's just pure rock. And when the female vocals come in over the top, you're relieved to hear she isn't just yelling some shit about cutting her boyfriends penis off, it's tuneful, and stops the scale tipping the band into “this is just noise, mate” territory.

Their riffs are really good, really catchy, upbeat and exciting. Slunt are very similar to the Black Velvets, one band who are definitely worth listening to also. There is also a Velvet Revolver edge to them. I cannot stress how impressed I am with this group.

The cover shows two guys and two girls in a swimming pool with cigarettes and beer are the usuals. Abba on skag. I can't say I held out much hope for what I was about to listen to, but no, I was wrong, this is really something good.

Song after song full of great riffs, vocals, and everything. “Mr One Night Stand,” “Absinthe In Munich,” “Dirty Blonde,” and “Over It” to name but a few.

Just when you think this band are on steroids or something, with the inability of slowing or quietening down, “Give You Love” pops up. It's a bit slower and has one of the first glimpses of distortionless guitar on the whole album. This track in fact, sounds very similar to another new band on the scene, The Like.

I honestly can't think what more to say, song after song is brilliant and it's all consisting of the same things. They've found a formula to make immense music, and they're sticking to it.

5 /5
