Everyone’s favourite band from Oregon, Broadway
Calls are back with their second full length studio
album ‘Good Views, Bad News’ the album
was written and recorded soon after they finished
their tour supporting Alkaline Trio across Europe
back in February and is due for release on the 17th
August, and trust me when I say this, the album
is fantastic and the best poppy-punk album you will
hear all year well unless Blink 182 surprise with
a new album with the end of the year but I wouldn’t
bet your house on that just yet.
If you have grown up on early Blink 182, Green
Day, Less Than Jake and also pretty much any band
that have been signed to the Drive Thru Records
label over the past ten years then you are going
to get a lot of enjoyment out of ‘Good Views,
Bad News’ as the album is as good and as
upbeat as each and every one of these bands and
it is guaranteed that the album will constantly
be booming out of your stereo as once you listen
to it you will be hooked.
The album starts off with a major positive moment
with the extremely infectious ‘Midnight
Hour’, you will start off tapping along
to the song and by the end of it the infectious
chorus will be lodged in your head and you will
find yourself singing it over and over again whilst
thinking happy thoughts.
‘Be All That You Can’t Be’
is the current single from Broadway Calls, and
the lead single they chose to release to promote
the album and it is an fantastic choice as the
song oozes with style and confidence, this is
the same Broadway Calls that everyone first fell
in love with back in 2005 but they have just got
that little bit more mature and confident and
you can clearly notice that within the songs on
‘Good Views, Bad News’.
‘Election Night’ has a real strong
New Found Glory feel about it, vocally the song
is very strong and instrumentally Broadway Calls
give it their all with Josh Baird constantly smacking
the hell out of his drums executing an upbeat
drum beat, the bass lines from Matt Koenig are
very infectious and bouncy whilst Ty Vaughn leads
the pack with really bright and happy sounding
power punk guitar riffs.
The real highlight of the album comes on ‘To
The Sheets’ the song is real fast paced
happy poppy punk song that have Green Day style
guitar riffs and drum rolls which just scream
out look how much we rock, whilst vocally and
lyrically the song is a proper sing-a-long affair
and the last 20 seconds or so of the song when
the whole band chant along is just epic and is
guaranteed to become a fan favourite, it is already
a favourite with me and I personally can’t
wait to hear the song live.
Another song that is also bound to become a fan
favourite is ‘Tonight’s Alive’
the song starts with Josh Baird drumming along
with a military style drum beat and the drum beat
pretty much maintains its pace throughout the
whole song, vocally the song comes across very
strong with the gang vocals coming from Ty Vaughn
and Matt Koenig.
‘Good Views, Bad News’ is the perfect
soundtrack to the summer and it couldn’t
be released at a better time, slap bang in the
middle of the British summer, it is just a shame
that the bright weather isn’t here so you
can enjoy this fine slice of poppy punk at a BBQ
with your friends whilst enjoying a few cold beers,
but you never know Broadway Calls might be able
to make history and change the English weather
for the better with this fine album release.
Broadway Calls are the new pop-punk heroes and
they are just waiting for you to pick up on them
as once you do you won’t be able to put
them down and shake the infectious sounds away
from your head, go and pre order ‘Good views,
Bad News’ now as you will not hear a finer
pop-punk album in long time.
