Album Review
Kerrang - The Album 2009Kerrang - The Album 2009

I remember about 8 years ago when Kerrang first started releasing their compilation albums with Kerrang the album 1,2 and 3, all three of the compilation albums were good and at the time were crammed with so much nu-metal and poppy punk as they were the in scenes at the time, then suddenly the Kerrang album’s died off for a few years, until 2008 when they released Kerrang the album 2008, it was a fantastic compilation and now Kerrang are back with Kerrang the album 2009 which is their biggest and best compilation album to date, featuring 42 tracks from some of the best well established acts and also from new bands on the horizon.

The good thing about Kerrang the album 2009 is that it’s mainly going to be teenagers who pick up the album, and it is going to be teenagers who are new to the whole alternative music scene and what they will get out of the album is a massive list of bands that they would not necessarily heard of before but now love thanks to the massive diverse band and track list the compilation album features.

The album features some of the best tracks to be released in 2009 so far such as ‘Know Your Enemy’ from Green Day, ‘Rusted From The Rain’ by Billy Talent, ‘Desolation Row’ by My Chemical Romance, ‘Sulfur’ by Slipknot, ‘Engine Skull’ by the Cancer Bats, ‘Omen’ by The Prodigy, and just by this short list of some of the bands and songs that feature on the album you can see it is a very diverse mix that features a band from pretty much every genre of the alternative music scene, for example if you are a My Chemical Romance fan and bought the compilation just because you are a fan of Kerrang in general and love the My Chemical Romance song, you will probably walk away loving the songs by Green Day, Billy Talent, Paramore, You Me At Six and many others which will show that the £9 you just spent of Kerrang ‘The Album 2009’ was money well spent as you now have 4 or 5 more bands that you now love and might not of had the chance to come across if you didn’t buy the album.

It is even worth buying the album just for those one off songs that you like by bands such as ‘Shake It’ by Metro Station and ‘Desolation Row’ by My Chemical Romance, they are both bands that I personally would not normally listen to but I like both songs and it really isn’t worth buying each bands album just for the one song and that is another factor that puts a positive on ‘Kerrang The Album 2009’.

‘Kerrang The Album 2009’ is the best alternative music compilation CD so far this year, it is like the alternative version of the Now That’s What I Call Music compilation series, but where the now series comes out every quarter, the Kerrang compilations come out every year and seriously does feature some of the best songs of the year so far.

If you are a newbie to the alternative music scene then this would seriously be the best started point for you, and if you generally like the majority of the songs that feature on the album then you really can’t go wrong with 42 tracks for £9 now can you?
