The Dead Swans formed back in 2006 and they are
one of England’s biggest hopes in the Hardcore
scene, a scene which to be honest the English bands
never really get a look in as the Americans really
dominate the scene but things could be set to change
as Bridge Nine Records are gearing up to release
‘Sleepwalkers’ the new album by Dead
Swans.
Like most hardcore music ‘Sleepwalkers’
is a really brutal album, the vocals from front
man Nicholas are proper raw and I do wonder how
the man can still speak after a pure 30 minute
stint of raw shouts and screams, the bad features
two guitarists and they work well together kicking
off some proper tasty crunching riffs that are
going to give your head a bit of a batter in.
The album starts with ‘Thinking Of You’
and it breaks you in slowly with a short soundscape
style introduction but as soon as the first drum
beat comes in you know it’s seconds before
Dead Swans explode in to mayhem and that is exactly
what happens as the strong raw sounding vocals
from Nicholas comes in.
‘Ascension’ is a really fast passed
song that thrives on meaty sounding guitar riffs
and loud shouty group vocals. ‘Ivy Archway’
is another fast paced song that makes me think
that the Dead Swans would even give the Gallows
a run for their money when it comes to action
packed hardcore music; ‘Swallow’ is
brutal as fuck from the start, and if any song
by the Dead Swans is going to stick in your head
I am sure this would be the one.
Instrumentally the Dead Swans pack a massive
punch, the guitar riffs are proper rip roaring
and so powerful, the drums beats are full of thunderous
strokes that you are not going to forget in a
hurry, whilst the vocals are as strong and angry
sounding as all the instruments put together if
not angrier.
Dead Swans have done the British proud with their
album ‘Sleepwalkers’ it brings nothing
new to the hardcore scene but it proves that the
British can do hardcore as well as any other country
and that the Dead Swans are going to be around
for a long time as they prove to the world that
they are the best sounding and hardest working
hardcore band to hail from England in a long time.
