Throughout 2008 there was no escaping Slaves To
Gravity they were forever on the road either doing
their own headline tours or supporting much bigger
bands and playing festivals across the world, they
also went on and won the best newcomer award at
the Kerrang Awards, but during 2009 I haven’t
heard anything about Slaves To Gravity and actually
thought that they were busy writing material for
their second album, well that was until I received
‘Doll Size’ which happens to be the
forth single taken from the band’s debut album
‘Scatter The Crow’.
‘Doll Size’ is released today, the
27th July 2009 and it is a lot different than
any of the bands previous singles, this time around
they have decided to release a real toned down
song, which features really stripped down guitar
riffs and Tommy Gleeson at the top of his game
with is strong clear vocals.
The b-side ‘Long Way Home’ is quite
a rocking song which starts off with a strong
sounding guitar solo, the bass line running throughout
the song is fantastic and once again Tommy Gleeson’s
vocals shine, and the addition of shouty group
backing vocals really brings the song to life.
The last song included with the single is ‘No
Shame’ it’s another song that is instrumentally
stripped down, but vocally sounds huge especially
as Tommy Gleeson shouts “Shame, Shame”.
I find it a bit odd that Slaves To Gravity are
releasing ‘Doll Size’ as a single
especially after so much time away from the music
scene, but hopefully this will make way for the
band to do one more headline tour before they
go off to write and record their new album, ‘Doll
Size’ is the weakest single the band have
released so far but in general it is a good song.
4/5
