Haunts are back with their new EP nicely titled
‘Love Is Blind EP’ and to be honest
it is a bit of a random mix, the EP features a new
song called ‘Love Is Blind’ which is
bound to feature on the bands new full length studio
album when it is released later in the year and
the other songs on the EP are remix versions of
the same song and remixes of ‘Black Eyed Girl’
and ‘Underground’.
‘Love Is Blind’ opens the EP and
the song is great in the way that it has a real
dark feel from start to finish, but when Banks
catchy yet repetitive vocals come in the song
really comes to life with Banks singing “Love
is blind, all the people say, love is blind, all
the people say” over and over again in such
a bouncy way, the guitar riffs running throughout
the song are immense and the three things that
will stick in your mind about Haunts is their
dark sound, their impressive guitar riffs and
also Banks unique dark vocals which get melodic
during choruses.
As for the other tracks on the EP, I’m
not really finding any of the remixes that interesting,
it’s like Haunts are trying to take on a
Nine Inch Nails approach with some of their songs,
such as during ‘Black Eyed Girl (Black Teeth
Remix), it has that Nine Inch Nails industrial
feel about it and is drenched in synths and various
different soundscapes and electronics, it’s
not bad but it’s not the kind of track to
get me telling everyone how good Haunts are.
I truly think that Haunts should of just released
‘Love Is Blind’ as a single then it
would be a really strong release, but instead
they have released an EP with one brand new song
and 4 different remixes of songs and the remixes
are ok to listen to once or twice but after that
I can’t see anyone wanting to re-listen
to them, ‘Love Is Blind’ is a top
song and would get a 4 star rating if it was released
on its own but the rest of the EP has really let
the release down, but at the same time I still
think Haunts may well deliver on their forthcoming
album.
