It's time for some more jumped up indie brilliance
from I Remember
Tapes. Although something tells me that deep down
these guys like a
splash of metal (perhaps the twiddling riff from
the third and final
track “Cold”) the overall outcome is
indie rock with a good sense of
pace and remarkably, everything's in tune.
Imagine if you can, that The Enemy were a bit
more exciting. If their
debut album had more than just two singalong singles
and a load of shit
in support. I Remember Tapes are the Enemy you've
just imagined.
“All I Know” is a the catchy opener,
shortly followed by “Indecisive,”
which, although it lacks catchiness, is still
a great listen. Finishing
with “Cold” and it's subtle metal
undertones, twiddles and harmonies.
It's a real shame that this isn't a whole album
– I'd be more than
interested to see how the boys fair over eleven
or twelve tracks, and
whether they are indeed just another Enemy, or
something more. But for a
modern band, they've done very well. Escaping
the attractive grasp of
tuneless rackets, and putting out an EP with three
really promising tracks.
4/5
