The Dead Formats may have only formed in 2008 but
the six piece already dress really smart and sharply
and they have a sound that is going to help take
bring British punk out in the open and in a few
years time I really believe that The Dead Formats
will be right up there with The Gallows, Bring Me
The Horizon and The Ghost Of A Thousand.
The band are well worth checking out over the
next couple of months, they have just released
their self titled debut mini album through Visible
Noise records and it packs an almighty punch,
its fast, its furious it’s as punk as the
Sex Pistols and its fucking fantastic.
From the opening riff and scream of ‘Again
And Again’ right through to the closing
riff of ‘Wind Up’ you know that The
Dead Formats mean business and that their debut
mini album is the start of big things for the
band.
The songs that stand out the most on the album
are ‘Again And Again’ for its fast
paced introduction which features dual vocals
from Darren Ditton and Francis Waller coming at
you in a hectic way full of attitude and aggression.
‘Dirty White Shoes’ is also a top
song, it starts off with a cracking set of guitar
riffs before going on a melodic yet angry journey
vocally. ‘Step It Up’ will have you
screaming “Woaaaaaooooo, Woaaaaaaoooooo”
over and over again whilst listening to the tasty
riffs at the same time’, whilst ‘One
Of The Faces’ sounds and feels like The
Gallows have just taken over The Dead Formats
mini album
The great thing about The Dead Formats is that
they are a six piece band which is really what
helps them pack in the massive sound they have
developed, they have two vocalist that both sound
so strong but stand out from each other at the
same time, they have two guitarists which really
helps them create that fierce jagged guitar sound,
the drumming is pretty constant and stands out
well, whilst the bass stands out so well when
Jon Poultan knocks off some distorted basslines.
At the moment The Dead formats are still pretty
unknown and are still playing the toilet sized
venues on the UK underground circuit, but they
have some massive opportunities coming up especially
when they support the Lostprophets at their festival
warm up shows in August, so I would recommend
checking these guys out before they get massive
and start playing the Academy sized venues as
I would imagine The Dead Formats in a small venue
is an experience you won’t forget in a hurry.
