The opening track, with the same name as the EP itself, has a seemingly
misleading intro with shouts and screams, drumrolls, and general noise.
And then before you've had enough time to say “well this is a tad
mental,” an upbeat verse begins with a funky kind of guitar backing.
The distortion kicks in for the bridge, and chorus, and then we're back
to the sheer angry noise. But besides the shouting parts, the song is actually
surprisingly good – and that's why I call the intro misleading. It
really doesn't give a hint to the rest of the song bar a few parts, and
the “shoutro.”
“Bobby Marshal” is the title of track two. And if this song's
anything to go by, he sounds like a pretty nondescript person. It really
is one of those songs that doesn't appear to get anywhere. And that's
all I'll say.
With a title like “Riot To Remember,” you can guess what
the third track is all about, can't you. I think the reason their songs
don't tend to do much, in my opinion, is that the screamo sections are
placed in odd places. They're used in breakdowns and bridges, as opposed
to the chorus areas, and thus the emphasis is placed on some of the least
important parts of the song. And that's how I reached my conclusion. As
for guessing the song from the title, it's not the riot worthy. Would
more likely be the soundtrack to a fifteen year old girl getting pissed
off in her bedroom.
The fourth track, “Regards,” is an acoustic track. It really
accentuates the vocalist's talents. He really is a good singer, and you
aren't too busy paying attention to the “oh my God we're SO like
rock and roll dude” music. The acoustic backing to the singer's
vocal contribution is also very well played.
I think, if Fei Comodo settled on a softer style, they could really get
somewhere, as they're talented guys when they aren't hidden behind a wall
of distortion.
2 .5/5
