The Brute Chorus have consistently produced music
that makes me switch
off. My previous exposure to them hasn't resulted
in particularly
positive reviews – however I think this latest
release is the best of a
bad lot. Compared to the others it seems to have
found the perfect mix.
It's quite indie thrash rock, perhaps a glimpse
of the White Stripes,
with a filthy bass tone, simple crashing drums,
and a vocal that for
once, doesn't seem out of place. I'm going to
throw this out there, that
the Brute Chorus have redeemed themselves, because
this isn't bad at all.
Despite the simple drums there's a good pace,
and unlike previous
releases it seems to remain within one genre for
the song's entirity,
fighting all the urges to go a bit mental.
Are times changing? Or is this the one worthwhile
album track that gets
a band to the top, only to realise then that the
rest of the album is
diabolical? I guess we'll just have to wait and
see.
3.5/5
