Blakfish - If The Good Lord Had Intended Us To Walk He Wouldn't Of Invented RollerskatesBlakfish – If The Good Lord Had Intended Us To Walk He Wouldn’t Of Invented Rollerskates

Many people are already claiming that Blakfish will be the punk band of 2009, well I personally can’t see them being the punk band of 2009 especially when bands like the Gallows, Ghost Of A Thousand, Billy Talent, NOFX, Rancid etc have already released top class albums this year, but from what I have heard of Blakfish I do think they could be one of the best new punk bands of 2009 especially if the rest of the tracks on their album are as good as their new single ‘If The Good Lord Had Intended Us To Walk He Wouldn’t Of Invented Rollerskates’.

‘If The Good Lord Had Intended Us To Walk He Wouldn’t Of Invented Rollerskates’ is a great track, it starts off sounding a bit like Johnny Foreigner with its duel catchy vocals, and as far as I know both bands are quite good friends and both hail from Birmingham, anyway just when you think you have heard it all the song turns aggressive with hardcore sounding vocals and a wide mix of heavy instrumental work, the vocals forever change from being melodic to aggressive, and the aggressive vocals forever change from being straight forward aggressive to scream your bollocks off raw aggressive, Blakfish have crammed so much into the one song they seem to mix punk, hardcore and indie and come up with a killer sound, a sound that deserves to be taken seriously.

The b-side of the single is a cover of ‘Charmer’ by Kings Of Leon, now ‘Charmer’ is one of my favourite Kings Of Leons songs ever written and it’s good to hear Blakfish cover the song , I am sure many Kings Of Leon hardcore fans will think Blakfish have murdered the song as that is exactly what I thought after 20 seconds or so of listening to the track but after listening to it over a few times I realised that I really like what these guys have done with the song, they have made it sound so much more raw and aggressive, they have turned the guitars up to eleven, they have also added in extra big sounding riffs, the screaming vocals of “I’m such a Charmer oh no” are very spooky and brutal sounding, this is a cover that shows off all the strengths of Blakfish

The debut album from Blakfish is released on the 10th August on Hassle Records; I am really looking forward to it and hope that the album features more songs of the high quality that’s featured on this single and the B-side.
