Don Broco are a four piece from Bedford, the band
have spent the past few weeks on the road touring
with Enter Shikari, they have many live dates ahead
of them including shows at Download festival, Relentless
Boardmasters festival, Underage festival and the
odd one off support slot and I would suggest for
you to go and check them out if you get the chance
because their EP ‘Thug Workout’ is fantastic.
The EP opens with ‘Wat’cha Gonna Do?’,
the song starts with a duet of vocals from a male
and female which stands out really well, and then
there is a massive drum roll which makes you realise
these guys like to have a mixed sound and then the
vocals going on fast melodic journey sounding like
some MC has taken to the mic with his fast free
flowing vocals, the good thing about the song is
the way it changes from being calm to being hard
hitting and loud in the matter of seconds and the
way it keeps changing back and forth, as one second
you will be listening to melodic vocals and chilled
out guitar riffs and then the next things turn screamo
with bashing drums beats.
The EP title track ‘Thug Workout’
starts with crunching guitar riffs, the vocals
come in giving the song a bit of a nu-metal sound
over the crunching riffs, but then every 10 to
20 seconds the song changes in sound with different
soundscapes coming and going, vocals changing
from raw sounding to melodic sounding, its great
the way that one second these guys are singing-a-long
normally and then the next the vocals come charging
at you at a force of 100 miles per hour.
‘Danny Boy’ features proper fast
melodic vocals that flow fast throughout the song,
the basslines are proper bouncy and full of groove,
the song is very melodic, features group sing-a-long
vocals in general finishes an perfect EP in an
perfect way.
‘Thug Workout’ is the start of good
things for Don Broco, the three tracks on the
EP are all of an high quality and feature of big
mixed sound throughout, Don Broco are a very unpredictable
band and band that’s worth watching very
closely because sooner or later big things are
going to happen for this four piece.
