Daniel Merriweather is one of Mark Ronson’s
best friends; most people will remember him from
when he did the vocals for ‘Stop Me If You
Think You’ve Heard This One Before’
on Mark Ronson’s covers album, since then
Daniel Merriweather has been busy working on his
debut album ‘Love And War’ which has
just been released.
Now I reviewed the last Daniel Merriweather single
‘Red’ a couple of weeks ago and I
really couldn’t get into it, the song featured
Sean Lennon on guitar which was alright, and Daniel
singing his heart out, but I just couldn’t
get on with Daniel’s all to perfect polished
boy band vocals.
So now I have the task of reviewing ‘Love
And War’, I have tried my best to listen
to the album with an open mind but it is something
that I found difficult especially after the opening
track ‘For Your Money’ dragged on
for nearly 5 minutes and featured Daniel getting
very emotional with his vocals, and to be honest
this is pretty much what the whole album is like
except the rest of the songs are shorter.
The album features both of the solo singles Daniel
Merriweather has released so far which is ‘Change
(Feat. Wale)’ and ‘Red’, I have
tried hard to get into and appreciate both songs,
but sadly they are not for me, in fact Daniel
Merriweather is not for me, the songs on the album
are either to emotional sounding or to depressing
there is nothing in-between.
It’s a hard task having to review ‘Love
And War’ especially when I have just had
to review the debut album from Gary Go, another
male singer song-writer who I totally love, his
guitar playing is so soothing and his vocals are
so up tempo and loveable, sadly none of this applies
to Daniel Merriweather, as I said in my review
for ‘Red’, I can understand why people
like and will like Daniel Merriweather and he
is without a doubt going to go far but he just
isn’t for me.
