Dreadzone are back and with a new single called
‘Beyond A Rock’, now I was dreading
listening to this song as to be honest I have never
heard their music before even though the band have
been together since 1993 and enjoyed their fair
share of success on Virgin Records with their biggest
hit being a single called ‘Little Britain’
which was released in 1996 and reached the top 20
of the UK chart.
Well the new Dreadzone single ‘Beyond A
Rock’ starts with a spoken word introduction
and then it moves on to a tasty guitar riff that
sounds like something out of the 80’s rock
scene similar to that on offer from bands such
as Europe, Whitesnake and even Def Leppard back
in the day, the song then moves on again with
fast paced vocals that sound like they have been
taken from the dad rock era, then suddenly the
vocals take a Mike Skinner from The Streets style
turn when MC Spee gets his good minute of lead
vocal duties.
‘Beyond A Rock’ is a big mixed song
and quite surprisingly it is actually pretty good,
in fact I could listen to the song over and over
again and I am sure it would grow on me a little
more each and every time.
4/5
