Now I love The Gaslight Anthem, in fact they were
one of my favourite bands of 2008, the band pretty
much came out of nowhere to release their album
‘The ’59 Sound’ which went on
to be at the top of many people’s top albums
of 2008 list, since then The Gaslight Anthem have
gone on to release 3 singles with are ‘The
59 Sound’, ‘Old White Lincoln’
and ‘Great Expectations’ all happening
to be top class songs, with so many more great songs
on their album worthy of being singles, now this
is where I get a bit confused because instead of
releasing a brand new single, The Gaslight Anthem
have decided to re-release ‘The 59 Sound’
as a single.
Now I am not one for re-releases I always think
they are a cash in and there to help raise bands
profile by getting the song out to people who
missed it the first time around, so many bands
have used this formula and it is never going to
change but I just wish they didn’t have
to use the term new single because yes it is a
single but it isn’t new, anyway the fact
it is a re-release doesn’t affect my over
all opinion on the song.
‘The 59 Sound’ is the song that
got me into The Gaslight Anthem, I loved it from
the first moment I heard it because it reminded
me of how Alkaline Trio were in the early days
and being that Alkaline Trio have been my favourite
band for the past ten years or so I was instantly
hooked on The Gaslight Anthem and I have to say
‘The 59 Sound’ sounds as good now
as it did a year ago when it was originally released.
If you missed The Gaslight Anthem when they took
the UK by storm in 2008 then you are in luck as
‘The 59 Sound’ is simply amazing and
they are stopping off in the UK on the 4th June
to play a show at the Forum in London before continuing
there tour which see’s them play at most
major European Festivals this summer.
