I reviewed the new Sing It Loud single ‘No
One Can Touch Us’, only a couple of days ago
and I was impressed with the bands clean cut poppy
punk sound, with bouncy basslines, clean cut guitar
riffs, melodic vocals and sing out loud choruses.,
I have since gone on to check out the bands full
length debut album and have to say that it features
the same formula throughout and proves to be a really
up beat listen, but is that enough to make them
stand out from the thousands of other poppy punk
bands around these days?
‘Come Around’ is an album that features
11 perfectly crafted poppy punk tracks, it runs
for 36minutes and it is so clean and poppy sounding
that It is best compared to some of the old mainstream
UK poppy punk band such as Busted, Mcfly, Son
Of Dork and even a few American based bands such
as Zebrahead and Motion City Soundtrack, the comparisons
of there, I would also like to add it sounds nothing
like Fall Out Boy, Blink 182, New Found Glory
or any of the other poppy punk American bands
that everyone seems to be comparing them to.
The album is proper happy from the opening bassline
of ‘I’ve Got A Feeling’ to the
closing vocals and guitar distortion of ‘Best
Beating Heart’. Some of the best tracks
on the album have to be the very infectious ‘We’re
Not Afraid’ which features Justin Pierre
of Motion City Soundtrack as a special guest which
is quite interesting considering his band mate
Josh Cain produced the album, another good moments
is the album title track ‘Come Around’
it’s got the potential to be a future single
release as it has that upbeat radio friendly feel
about it with a smooth sing-along chorus of “I’m
all tied up, and I’m trying my best to get
down, come on girl come around, come around, I’ll
wait up all night to see you move, see you move”.
The bands current single ‘No One Can Touch
Us’ happens to be the strongest track on
the album and so it should be as it oozes with
bounce, style and catchy rhythm.
I can only find one downside with the album and
that is that you could easily listen to the album
without noticing any variety within the songs
and sound of the band because the majority of
the songs on the album do sound quite similar,
there is a big lack of variety and this could
be a major problem for Sing It Loud, because you
need to be able to stand out from the crowd to
survive in the music industry and if your album
doesn’t have many songs that stand out from
each other then you are really going to struggle
when it comes to standing out from other bands.
I would also like to question how Sing It Loud
got signed to Epitaph Records, especially after
only playing something like 7 live shows, they
don’t sound like a band that should be signed
to Epitaph but they are so they should make the
most of it.
From what I have seen, Sing It Loud have been
getting bad comments from every direction of the
internet, this could be down to people being closed
minded and hating the band before even giving
them a chance because they are another poppy punk
band with poppy being the key word there, but
I personally don’t see that being a problem
as the band have developed their own style, they
now just need to develop it further and get some
stand out tracks under their belts.
3.5/5
