Album Review
Allister - Before The BlackoutAllister - Before The Blackout

Here we have the new album from Drive Thru Records signings, Allister. The band are well known for their fast pop punk sound with sing-along melodies that stick in your head for days.

So its been three years since their last album “Last Stop Suburbia” and the band have managed to keep to their pop punk sound that they are loved for but also bring a more mature sound at the same time, throwing in some heavy riffs for good measure.

The album starts off well with “Waiting” which begins really slow and then builds the pace as the song goes on.

Then we have a bundle of catchy songs like “A Lotta Nerve” which is a good singalong pop punk song. Also “From The Ground Up” which gets you bopping along, and the awesome “Rewind”.

The first signs of the more mature sound comes on track 5 “Blackout” which is a very slow sounding track that just doesn’t feel like Allister but works well. And it doesn’t stop there; track number 9 “A Study In Economics” also doesn’t sound like them but is a great song and pretty catchy.

One of my favourite tracks on the album is “The Legend Of Pegleg Sullivan” which is like a classic Allister song and is full of great melody and is the most catchy memorable track on the album.

Overall the album is what you would expect from the band but with a mixture of mature sounding rock songs and catchy poppy punk songs. So if you’re a fan of Allister you will like this record, but I cant see this gaining the band a whole new set of fans.

3/5
