If you haven’t heard of In Case Of Fire then
I guess you have been hiding under a rock for the
past 18months as a week doesn’t go by without
the name In Case Of Fire being mentioned in various
different big music magazines, newspapers or their
music being played on the radio and music television
channels or generally In Case Of Fire being on the
road touring as they seem to spend the majority
of their time touring their butts off.
Now I first took notice of In Case Of Fire in
October 2008 when they supported Funeral For A
Friend on massive tour across the UK and at this
point In Case Of Fire had already made a big name
for themselves in the Underground scene and were
just about to burst out of that scene after supporting
so many big bands such as 30 Seconds To Mars,
Biffy Clyro, Queens Of The Stone Age and also
having Kerrang jump on the In Case Of Fire bandwagon
praising them at every opportunity.
I then went on to listen to their debut single
‘This Time We Stand’ which I eventually
reviewed giving it a 4 out of 5 rating, but after
hearing the song many times over I started to
think that In Case Of Fire really weren’t
that special and maybe they weren’t worth
all the hype they were getting, they then got
announced as the main opening act for the Kerrang
Tour 2009 which ran throughout January and saw
In Case Of Fire play to thousands of people every
night.
Now lets fast-forward to May 2009, In Case Of
Fire have now released their third single ‘Enemies’
which I have recently reviewed claiming it to
be “one hell of a catchy rock master piece”
giving the song a 5 out of 5 rating, the band
have also just released their long awaited debut
album ‘Align The Planets’ this Monday
and I will now hold my hand up high and take away
all that doubt that I had about In Case Of Fire
a few months ago as ‘Align The Planets’
is fucking amazing and could well go on to be
my favourite album of 2009 once the year is over.
The great thing about ‘Align The Planets’
is that it is a very diverse album, every song
is so different from the rest, you have your serious
rock and roll songs like the band’s debut
single ‘This Time We Stand’, you have
the catchy as hell songs like the bands previous
two singles ‘The Cleansing’ and ‘Enemies’
you also have your really big sounding epic songs
such as ‘And Sorrow’ which reminds
me very much of the stadium rock songs that Muse
have been kicking out for many years now.
The whole album is killer, there are no songs
that are there to make up the numbers, they all
rock in their own individual way, one of the best
songs on the album in my opinion is the title
track ‘Align The Planets’, instrumentally
it proper kicks arse, the constant pounding drumming
from Colin Robinson has to be respected as this
song showcases that he is a drummer of such high
quality, whilst he is drumming away, brother and
front man Steve Robinson is singing his heart
out with his powerful style of vocals whilst knocking
off some great big guitar riffs, whilst bassiest
Mark Williamson shows off his bass skills with
some stand out bouncy bass lines.
Serious give ‘Align The Planets’
a listen and try and pick out a bad moment, you
will struggle because the album really is that
perfect, it’s hard to believe that three
guys have made such a strong sounding 12 track
album that packs as much power as this does, many
people compare In Case Of Fire to Muse even though
they sound nothing like Muse apart from on one
song, but what I do know is that these guys want
to be respected and up their like other big sounding
three piece bands like Muse and The Mars Volta
and I am pretty sure that in the future this is
where In Case Of Fire will be especially if they
continue to tour as hard as they have up until
now and also continue to record massive sounding
songs that sound slightly different from all of
their others.
5/5
