Lyu are a young bunch of talented musicians, they
have been playing music since they were twelve which
might just explain why these guys sound so tight
as a band, they started off as a three piece but
added a second guitarist into the band during 2007,
the band then went on a signed a deal with Lockjaw
records a label that deals with so many underground
bands in the European music scene, they then went
on to release their debut EP ‘from Something
To Nothing’ which gained them a lot of interest
in the underground UK alternative scene.
Fast-forward on a year or so and Lyu are now
signed to Great Escape Records and are due to
release their new EP ‘The Sky Is Yours’
on the 8th June and I have to say that it is a
fantastic release that oozes with style, rhythm
and melody.
‘The Sky Is Yours’ is a mini album
that is over before you know it which then has
you reaching for the repeat button so you can
listen to it again and again until you have fully
taken in every hook, infectious chorus, pounding
drumming, big metal guitar riff etc.
The first track on the album is ‘Forget
The Past, Here’s To The Present’ which
is a short instrumental track which features some
kick arse catchy guitar riffs and as soon as the
track finishes another set of big guitar riffs
kicks in for ‘Here In Line’, it’s
a good 30 second instrumental introduction before
the poppy, Short Warning style vocals kick in,
the song is crammed full of melody, you will find
yourself singing along to the chorus and tapping
along to the rest of the song.
‘Visions’ is another big sounding
song that starts off with a massive instrumental
introduction, in the other tracks on the EP ‘Set
Sail’, ‘Fight Fall Forget’ all
start off with a big instrumental introduction
and its moments like this that make you realise
that Lyu have developed a really strong sound
that could quite possibly help them go far in
the future.
It’s not just the introductions that kick
arse, they are what first of all draws you into
the songs on this mini album, but the whole EP
is all killer with no filler what so ever, there
are some proper powerful guitar riffs on offer,
there are group chant along vocals and just the
general arrangements of the songs prove that these
guys have thought long and hard working on ‘The
Sky Is Yours’.
‘The Sky Is Yours’ is enough to help
Lyu make a name for themselves, it’s not
going to find them mainstream success or anything
like that but it will help them fight their way
to the top of the underground music scene which
could easily make things more worthwhile for these
guys when they decide to release their full length
debut album in the future.
