If you want to hear a bit of chav rock that is actually
quite decent unlike that of Goldie Lookin Chain
then Tripp is the man that you need to check out,
I heard reviewed his debut single ‘River Phoenix’
a few months back and really loved how the man rapped
to such an upbeat powerful rhythm, since then Trip
has supported Goldie Lookin Chain on their full
length tour across the UK and is now due to release
his debut album ‘ShortCuts’ on the 25th
May 2009 and its actually not bad.
Now I’m not the biggest fan of rap style
rock music but there is something about Trip that
makes me really like his music and I think it’s
because he takes himself quite seriously and also
takes his music seriously and has created an album
that is full of big catchy dance beats, fast paced
melodies and overall top class songs, just don’t
expect the whole album to be of a top quality
as it’s not.
‘Applecheeks’ opens the album and
the song is really fast paced, it features some
top class electronic sounds whilst Tripp’s
vocals change from rap rock to more melodic sing-along
vocals for the up-tempo chorus, the chorus slightly
reminds me of early Feeder material and the lyrics
could quite possibly make you laugh if you take
the time to listen to the song word for word.
There are many other top moments on the album
such as the extremely catchy dance number ‘Laundromat’
which is a song about washing Christmas jumpers
and dirty clothing, other highlights are the powerful
single ‘River Phoenix’, also ‘Olympic
Breakfast’ which is a song about having
an £8.99 breakfast between 6am and 9am the
song is really random but appeals to me in its
own weird way.
Whilst there are good moments on the album there
are also some really bad moments such as ‘Rented’
which is a really weird sounding track with really
odd sounding electronics running through it, this
is more chav dance than it is chav rock, also
‘Who’s that’ the song that ends
the album has far too much going on that it’s
got more chance of giving you an headache than
it has making you want to listen to the song again,
and then at the end of the track Tripp slag’s
off many celebrities such as Noel Edmonds trying
to make himself sound cool but sadly failing.
If you like Goldie Lookin Chain then you will
most defiantly like Tripp and I would also imagine
that you will end up liking Tripp more than you
like Goldie Lookin chain mainly because Tripp’s
music doesn’t sound a big mess like that
of Goldie Lookin Chain, this is defiantly a good
effort for Trip’s debut album release.
3.5/5
