Tortuga Bar is the latest project by Mark Kowarsch
and Alexandra Gschossmann. The band's debut, Narcotic
Junkfood Revolution, took three years and a fair
few guest musicians to produce this debut offering.
Album opener, Likely to be dropped, starts with
a distorted guitar intro, before the bass starts
on its own, then the rest of the band kicks in,
its has a steady beat, but its more noisy than
tuneful, alot going but nothing really memorable
in the opener, 'Don't tell your self its ok' is
a less complex affair, its more mellow than the
opener, more simple and easier to listen to, and
the vocals are alot better, but then the collaboration
has changed on this track, 'sweet stage' starts
with a simple beat, before getting into more of
a quicker heavier rhythm before getting simple
again.A good track is Columbine Community, its
a decent acoustic track, thats very stripped down
to start with before the drums kick in but its
not overpowering the acoustic guitar and the beat
is fairly simple too. Alot of the tracks on this
album, the style varies from each track to the
next, almost every track has a collaboration with
someone that you've probably never heard of, the
guitar be it acoustic or electric tracks are well
executed, the drums and bass are simple but very
effective at times, theres a good variation in
the vocal styles which mixes things up and no
two tracks are the same, although theres no really
structure to the album, just seems like a bunch
of songs shoved on a CD, like a compilation, this
album is either a hit or a miss, theres something
on here for everyone though, and it worth checking
out if you like a mixed bag of tunes.
Narcotic Junkfood Revolution is out now on the
Viersieben Records Label .
