You just have to love Flogging Molly, the seven
piece Irish American Celtic Punk band who sure know
how to write classic songs, the band have been together
since 1997 and in that time have released 4 studio
albums, 3 live albums and various different singles
and bits and pieces, their latest studio ‘Float’
was released back in March 2008 on Sideonedummy
Records and to be honest I haven’t really
heard much about the album but I think I’m
going to start hearing a lot more from it now as
Flogging Molly have just decided to release the
album title track ‘Float’ as an single.
‘Float’ is a real laid back song
that is crammed full of that traditional Flogging
Molly Irish sound, it opens with an acoustic guitar
melody with front man Dave King singing along
is a strong near spoken word style, now ‘Float’
is nothing like the classic upbeat Flogging Molly
songs that I used to love like ‘Laura’,‘Drunken
Lullabies’ etc but the song is epic in its
own chilled out way.
The more you listen to ‘Float’ the
more it grows on you, it’s great how the
song builds up from being really chilled out with
just an acoustic guitar running through alongside
Dave’s vocals to the upbeat end of the song
where each as every instrument is being played
fast with Dave’s vocals coming across equally
as fast.
4/5
