Album Review
Livid - OneLivid - One

Livid are a rock band from middle England, with their debut album 'One', which has been 10 years in the making and being mostly on the road time for the past 2 years, the band has some endorsement from Justin Hawkins, stating they could be the next perry and tyler.

Freakshow, starts the album off, with a quick guitar solo/intro, before getting into the song proper, and almost immediately you can here there influences from the 80s and it sounds some what dated, but not in a cool retro way, The singer sounds like an 80s version of Vince Neil, the vocals are good but on some songs the squeals get tiresome. the guitar riffs however are good and competent, but they seem to miss that memorable cutting edge, that gets you playing some air guitar. 'Lost lady saloon' has a chugging rhythm, thats ok , but you'll either like it or you wont. Devils Bones is more led Zeppelin like, with a riff which sounds heavily influenced by the guitar intro to led zeps, 'Moby Dick'. Album highlight sadly comes right at the end, album closer 'cant find home', Pay Ward, the vocalist seems to have gone for a freddie mercury sound that works, this epic ballad, has some great solos in it from Steve Paris, the song is very guns and roses, which is not a bad thing, echoing some of G'n'Rs better work. its a good album closer, and its a shame that the other songs on the album wernt as good as the closer

This album is for fans, of 80s hair metal, that may want to revist the past with something new. 'One' is out now on the Lost Lady Records label.

3/5
