The Draft - In A Million PiecesThe Draft - In A Million Pieces

After Hot Water Music split up three of the four members, frontman/guitarist Chris Wollard, bassist/spokesman Jason Black and drummer George Rebelo stuck together and recruited a new guitarist called Todd Rockhill and formed a new band called The Draft.

The band could have so easily carried on as Hot Water Music after Chuck Ragan left the band but they always said if one member left the band would be no more. So with a new band name and 3/4 of the Hot Water Music line up remaining the band had a big challenge ahead of them changing there sound and image etc and with the bands debut album 'In A Million Pieces' I think they have done just that.

The album starts off with a track called 'New Eyes Open', which is a very catchy track with a great sing a long chorus of "That's what I like about it, it's not so complicated". Track two 'Lo Zee Rose' is just as catchy with a mass sing a long chorus as well. Infact you will find yourself singing a long to most songs on this album. 'Let It GO' is quite a mellow track which maintains the catchiness throughout. 'Alive Or Dead' is a fast track starting off with some quality guitar playing and features some of the most quality catchy lyrics on the whole album. 'Bordering' sees the bands sound change ever so slightly but maintains the catchy choruses’ which is what the album is full of.

'Wired' is a stunning track both musically and lyrically, however, the chorus is very shouty and very catchy. On 'All We Can Count On', the band change there sound again slightly as the song is a real slow sing a long song. 'Out Of Tune' is a true punk rock song.

In A Million Pieces finishes with 'The Tide Is Out' which is a great song where Chris Wollard's vocals are more raw and shouty and finish the album well.

The Draft have done well and have created a stunning album with 12 catchy tracks and also managed to move away from there former bands sound. The only thing that stays is Chris Wollard's unique vocals which would be pretty hard to change.

4/5
