The time has come for you to go down to your local
joke shop and purchase one of their finest rock
star mullet wigs, get yourself a blow up guitar
and air guitar until your heart’s content
to some big thick and fast tasty sounding guitar
riffs as Heavens Basement finally have their debut
EP ready and its fully influenced by old skool rock
bands such as bon Jovi, AC/DC, Thunder, Led Zeppelin,
The Who and many more.
Heavens Basement’s have been together for
about an year now, they played their first live
show in April 2008 and ever since then they have
been busy playing their old skool brand of heavy
rock across the UK and Europe where they have
so far played over 100 shows including having
the main support slot on Thunder’s UK tour
as well as support slots with Bon Jovi and memorable
appearances at Bloodstock and Hard Rock Hell 2
Festivals, not bad for a band that’s only
a year old.
The bands self titled debut EP is now here and
it features 6 tracks that are crammed full of
massive sounding guitar riffs, squealing guitar
solos and perfect song writing and production
skills where all 6 tracks simply sound amazing.
The EP starts with ‘Tear Your Heart Out’
and its great from the opening guitar riff right
up until the closing squealing sounding guitar
solo, the bass lines are very bouncy and the drumming
well it’s not that noticeable here but there
are defiantly some good drum beats in place, the
lead vocals are very strong and clear, sounding
like a true classic rock band, the chorus is extremely
up beat and catchy in every way possible.
‘Executioner’s Day’ is without
a doubt the best song on the EP, the song is full
of big sounding guitar riffs, it has the best
guitar solo to feature on the EP and overall is
a really powerful sounding song that sounds better
after each and every listen, there is a slight
feel of Slaves To Gravity within the song as well.
The riffage and solo work on ‘Reign On My
Parade’ is absolutely breathtaking and an
air guitarists dream, I can just imagine the whole
crowd going air guitar mad at the bands gigs whilst
they play this track.
As said above front man Richie Hevanz has a great
set of vocals, that sound very similar to those
of Tommy Gleeson from Slaves To Gravity especially
during ‘Graduation’, but that is where
the Slaves To Gravity comparison starts and ends
as where both bands do have that classic rock
sound, Slaves To Gravity are more on grunge side
of things where heavens Basement are more on the
straight edge rock side.
It seems to be every year that a new British
band adopts this style of music and truly blows
me away with the way that they play classic rock
but make it sound unique to themselves with the
way they write the songs and cram so much into
it, in 2007 it was Slaves To Gravity who really
impressed me and they are still going extremely
strong, in 2008 it was the Stone Gods, and they
haven’t stopped working since they came
on the scene, they are without a doubt one of
the most hardest working British bands I have
ever come across and now we have Heavens Basement
who seem to be following in the same footsteps
as both Slaves To Gravity and the Stone Gods.
Give Heavens Basement a listen as classic rock
is coming back stronger than ever, and these guys
simply rock.
