The Gathering, a highly creative and influential
band from the Netherlands, formed in 1989 , self
described as Trip Rock, The West Pole is the bands
9th studio album and their first with new singer
Silje Wergeland.
Album opener is a repetitive progressive track
that sets the tone for the album, it seems very
mature, and the new singer has plenty of room
to shine and put her own stamp on the band, her
vocals have an ethereal quality at times thats
relaxing but this can be said for some of the
tracks aswell. Its quite an easy listen going
at its own pace with no real rush to prove a point,
altho the songs get a little long in the tooth, but
the album seems to find that it can drop down
a gear from its already leisurely pace on the
track No bird call. The album is very well crafted
being simplistic, melodic and atmospheric, with
some solid songwriting to boot. Its an album thats
like a sunny Sunday evening, something you can
drift away effortlessly to, perhaps to your own
west pole, daydream music this is.
If you fancy drifting away, pick up this album
on May 4th.
