Now everyone has come across a band with a name
that’s their to shock, we have had the Cancer
Bats, Fucked Up, Selfish Cunt and now I have just
come across The Cumshots, now I am sure that name
is going to shock people when they first see this
review on Alternative Vision but get used to it
as the band are the kind of band that like to go
for the shock factor and quite honestly don’t
really give a fuck about anything, just read into
the bands history for proof.
Now for those who like me have never heard of
the band until now, they are a five piece band
who formed back in 1999 they are from Norway and
play a mixed sound of punk meets metal, quite
similar to the sound of the Cancer Bats really
just not as polished sounding and accessible really,
the band have released 3 albums with their current
album ‘Just Quit Dying’ being released
back in 2006 but only just being released in the
UK.
For a band that likes the shock factor as you
can imagine the song titles aren’t your
average sounding song title instead you have shock-tastic
titled tracks such as ‘Praying For Cancer’,
‘Bitter Erection’ ‘Baptized
In Broken Glass’ and many more, get used
to it as these guys are never going to clean up
their act.
The album starts with ‘Praying For Cancer’,
the song is a really aggressive and has some great
Cancer bat style metal riffs mixed with the fast
as fuck punk style gruff sounding vocals that
have a mix of madness and melodic-ness.
The album is crammed full of lyrics about violence,
death and general human decay and abuse, just
listen to the opening lyrics of the 6minute running
track that is ‘Like Pouring Salt On A Slug’
the opening lyrics are “My fists two bullets,
just ripping through your face is that your cheekbone
exploding like a pane of glass porcelain under
my fists”, so don’t go expecting any
love stories about Barbie and Ken as they won’t
be found here.
There are some proper tasty guitar riffs popping
up throughout the album that you would be happy
to sit and listen to time and time again and they
are at their best on songs such as ‘I Drink
Alone’ and ‘Bitter Erection’,
in fact in my opinion those two songs have been
put together so well and happen to be the best
tracks on the album.
Let’s be honest The Cumshots are going
to find it hard to make a big breakthrough in
the UK, they have a good enough sound to gather
a steady fan base but sadly that is all the band
are going to get from the UK.
3/5
