I first remember hearing about Linchpin back in March 2005 when Good Charlotte
announced on stage at London Brixton Academy that they have signed a band
called Linchpin from London and they are only 15 years of age and ever
since that day I have wanted to check the band out but never had the chance
until now. The band have now just turned sixteen and are about to unleash
there new ep called 'Small Town Theory' which is already getting rave
reviews and bigged up by radio stations, music magazines and even the
Foo Fighters Dave Grohl which can only be a good thing.
The ep features six tracks that are 2-3 minutes long and is pretty amazing
from start to finish. Opener, 'High Life' starts off with a cool little
intro then Joey Cass's vocals kick in which sound stunning, the song features
a nice break down towards the end as well. Track two, 'Can't Explain'
sounds quite similar to Good Charlotte in places and is a song about losing
a friend and is oddly a very catchy pop punk song. 'Hypochondriac' is
a heavier sounding track from anything else on the ep and also the shortest
track on the ep running at only 1minue and 45 seconds but it is a truly
stunning song and shows the band don’t just stick to the same old
sound like some bands do.
'Small Town Theory' is the title track from the ep and is a nice catchy
song. The ep finishes with 'Artists And Raptors' where Joey Cass's vocals
are at there best, especially on the chorus which is the best chorus on
the whole ep.
Overall im really impressed with Small Town Theory its a stunning ep
and its hard to believe that a group of lads who have only just turned
sixteen have produced an ep this good, with songs like this and the great
following, Linchpin have a great future ahead of them and I personally
cant wait to see what they come up with as they get more older and more
mature.
