GU Medicine are a four-piece band from Barnsley in England who formed
back in 2003. The band have already made a name for themselves with there
self titled debut album a few years ago, sessions on radio 1 and other
radio stations as well as touring with My Ruin, Johnny Truant etc.
'Saints Of Excess' is the bands second album release and starts off with
'A Meeting With Foul Play' which is a song full of anger and played at
a very fast pace. 'The Price I Pay' starts off with a nice mixture of
drums and guitars before the vocals kick in, the drumming is pretty constant
throughout the whole track and the vocals are pretty raw. 'You'll Never
Make It Stick' has a very long introduction, which gets louder and louder
by the second before a mixture of raw sounding and sing along vocals kick
in, good song. 'Taking Her Lead' is another track that starts off really
quiet but builds up on sound the more the track plays on however, this
track isn’t anything special.
'Bring It To Heel' is the song that stands out the most to me on this
album as it is very fast paced from start to finish and the music and
vocals are fast and catchy throughout. The album title track 'Saints Of
Excess' is a fun sounding song and the vocals work pretty well over the
guitar riffs and banging drums.
Overall GU Medicine are a good sounding band and Saints Of Excess is an
average sounding album, The band have a good sound and even sound slightly
like Queens Of The Stone Age at moments. Each song is as good as the previous
one but there’s nothing truly outstanding about this album but it
will keep the hardcore fans happy im sure.
