Ok so the Detroit Social Club are a six-piece band
from Newcastle, they have been together for quite
a short time and it was in late 2008 that things
started to go right for the band as they played
two shows in Manchester within a couple of hours
of each other and ever since then they have been
fully touring across the UK.
There are many different ways that you can explain
what Detroit Social Club sound like but the best
way for me is basically to explain it is for you
to imagine the band Beck a bit more toned down
and you will nearly be there or on the other hand
think of Radiohead trying to beef their sound
up and sound less depressing and you will be even
closer to understanding what these guys sound
like.
The bands new single ‘Sunshine People’,
is a very average sounding track, it fails to
bring anything new and exciting with it, there
is nothing that stands out about the track and
even though the band have some big heavy guitar
riffs, for a six-piece band they sound that little
bit too boring, on the plus side the lead vocals
do sound a bit like Ian Brown’s vocals but
that not enough to save the song.
The b-side is called ‘Cause And Consequence’
and it is some kind of dance mix song that is
crammed full of electronics and really depressing
vocals, all and all its a bit of an disappointing
electronic-indie track that I can’t see
many people wanting to listen to more than once.
Overall Detroit Social Club don’t float
my boat and I wouldn’t be too surprised
if they didn’t float many other people’s
boat as for a six-piece band they sound far too
depressing and haven’t come up with anything
to help then stand out from the crowd of well
established indie bands that are currently gracing
the charts and filling the big arenas.
2/5
