BlackGuard a young metal outfit from canada have
toured with Lacuna Coil, Voivod and many others
on there home soil, this is there debut album on
Nuclear Blast records. From there promo shots it
seems that they fancy themselves as drinkers and
would not seem out of place surrounded by vikings
The album is energetic and certainly they are
not beginners due to how effortlessly the music
flows with tecnicality and some great guitar work,
Kicks of slightly theatrical or cinematic in nature
Scarlet to snow kicks in this is a blend of fast
guitar work, fantastic drumming and lively keybords,
certainly can be called Children of Bodem Esq
at least there earlier stuff at any rate.
This rounds on me has a pirate keyboards on fast
forward makes you wanna get up an dance.
This album has orchestral keyboards of great skill,
the riffs go at pace, certainly no beginners here
and the vocals at times get a bit much , but its
all well balanced getting dramatic and folklorist
at times. Most of the songs go by quite quickly
which is no bad thing. While no stranger to recording
with a few demos, EPs and an album released in
Canada, this is there first European release which
could get them a decent sized fan base and it
could see them getting right up there with there
peers when on tour. Profugus Mortis is released
on April 13th.
4/5
